The Thanksgiving race is actually the 1st race of the 2010 season. You can bet that there will also be several races out of region 10 in Washington. We had 2 this year up that way. Yes, a very busy season to keep your junk running.

You're right about the Turkey Day race Lance, and hell yes it's going to be a busy year, there is rumor afloat of a race in September as well, but at this time it's just that, I'll update this thread as I get more info.

That lake is only like 1/3 mile long from shore to shore. We would have to do about 10 laps to complete our 5 mile race.

i say we as compjet should throw out havasu landing and the brawley race.

as suspected previously, i heard havasu landing is stupidly rough. random rollers rolling through the course from the lake all day.

and this brawley deal sounds dangerous. thats too small.

if any of you feel differently about this, let me know. i dont mind discussing it. I am just posting my initial reaction to this.

I am in agreement with brad. with the low boat count at Parker we need to pick the races that will be good for the majority to attend. With the economy the way it is it will be very difficult for some to make every race and we need a minimum of 4 boats for every race to be legal. I do need imput of who plans on competing this year. Hopefully we have some new participants as our numbers are dwindling

Terry, you can count me in for the entire year, Burley included.

we had a decent boat count for parker, it was just unfortunate that so many boats broke....and some of the boats that broke aren't going to return anytime soon.

You guys crack me up. You piss and moan to become a national class, then  once you become that class, you decide to not go to races unless they fit your schedule or your idea of a good venue. WTF is up with that? If I'm a promoter, and I put C/J in my sanction the first time I had no shows in that, or any other class, would be the last time I put them on the schedule. I don't agree with this way of thinking, seems like you guys have gotten a bit of a Prima Donna complex.

So Havasu is rough, **** letting Jim run that goddamned tuna barge of his makes as big, or bigger rollers than you'll get just about anywhere. Man up.
This place in Brawley is small, BFD. Ming is only 5/8 mile long, and you guys use less than half the lake's length to run.  If you guys want the respect that the other classes get, and not to be the butt of the pit jokes, then you need to change your attitudes or get used to being the red headed step child of APBA racing.

You guys talk about "growing the class", If I was "Joe Jet Boater" and was interested in racing my boat, one trip to the races would more than likely kill that idea. If there are jets running, they usually don't make all 4 heats, or they put in ******* cabin cruisers to make the field "legal" horse shit!

This is racing, get used to it. You keep blowing motors up? Open the wallet and pay a reputable builder to handle your engines. Race fuel & travel expenses getting costly? BFD, this is sportsman racing, a form of motorsport where you do it strictly because you have the heart
to do it, not because it's going to pay your bills, or even cover your costs, but because you LOVE it.

There was a guy that used to race the C/J class, he had heart, in spades, he quit racing because his priorities in life changed. Maybe you guys should reconsider where your priorities lie. If you can't commit to the sport, maybe you should bow out until you can.

Off my soap box, flame away.

everything but havi and brawley. i already stated how i felt about these two venues.

my boat took a severe beating in parker due to jims 'tuna boat'....none of us were happy about him being out there. we were all told that he was going to take the green and pull off immediately. for unknown reasons, he went out there and just destroyed the water and made it unsafe with the wake he was creating. These rollers were the same as described to be experienced at havasu landing. no thank you. i will pass, just like others have told me as well.

and as far as brawley...its 'west lake'....according to google maps little legend scale dealio...its 1,000 feet wide. that is 0.18 miles. its a round lake. more like a pond. i just dont see how that is safe at the speeds we run. sure, its a great lake for the outboard hydros, but not for us.

I understand where you are coming from about us not sacking up and going to every race that they put us on the schedule. The other side of the arguement is it looks even worse then we have 4 boats show, we run one heat, and 1 person breaks, and we dont have a legal class for the rest of the weekend. i think it is better to not show up at all. i say we pick and choose the events we go to and show up with more solid boats/boat count and make a presence that way. quality, not quantity.

So you're saying that you'll only run the races you want to run, I'm good with that, I have no dog in this fight, just my $.02.
Y'all have fun.

BTW: Wiest Lake in Brawley is 1887' Long by 1404' wide, in comparison Lake Ming is 4011' long by 1459' wide. Out of that 4011' feet you guys only run in approximately 1666' of it's length. The argument that it's too small is weak at best.

you seem pretty upset about this. im not. i even posted over there on BRF asking how it works out. as it looks to me, it doesnt look safe, thus why i am asking. quit gettin your panties ruffled up. not sure what todays hostility is all about, you seemed fine with my opinions about all this yesterday when we talked.

My panties aren't ruffled up, there is no hostility, call if frustration. I didn't agree with you yesterday when we talked about those races, if I recall I actually told you that if you want to run for points, you need to make every race scheduled. I'm just disappointed in the class as a whole. From your drama with JR, to the filler boats, to the whispers that HB isn't running a legal C/J engine. I guess I'm just passionate about this and when I see something I am passionate about falling into the shit, I get upset. Don't worry sugar britches, I still love you.

its racing...go look at any other class...they have the same god damn drama, if not worse. shit, they arent showing up to every single race either...no k's or pro stocks (or was it supers Huh? ) were at parker....

we are all passionate about it. as you well know, even if havasu landing was somewhere more practical, i couldnt make it. i have a serious mess on my hands right now that needs to be addressed before i go boat racing.

Terry, I'll call you this evening, you are, without a doubt, the exception to the commitment comment I made.

It seems I stirred up quite the pot with my comments, GOOD!
That shows me that you guys still have passion, that's f**king great,
now harness that passion and let's go racing.

There sure is alot of this "you guys" being thrown around. Just because the CJ's are put on the sanction doesnt mean its a must attend race. Yeah, Jim said he would pull off after the green, did you really expect that? I was pissed too, but thats racing. Its not easy doing all the races and paying all the bills yourself so some of the bench racers step up so we can do all the races. Have a talk with Terry or even myself about what it takes to do all the races. This lake down in Brawley is small, so we run 10 or 15 laps, doesnt bother me any other than getting around the lappers. Havasu wasnt to bad, they wait until the ferry rollers leave before the run the next heat. As far Harolds motor, its was the smallest chevy there, well under 500 ci. Cant beat boat setup. See ya at the next race.

Just so we're all clear here.

I know what it costs to race competitvely, that's why I'm not racing, I can't commit to it financially.

I NEVER SAID THAT HAROLD'S MOTOR WAS OR IS ILLEGAL

that's just whispers in the pits, none of my business if it is or isn't, no dog in the fight.

Having raced in stock car racing at a variety of venues I know it is frustrating to go to a place you don't care for (El Cajon Speedway  Thumbs Down ), but to support the series sometimes it has to be done.  I personally liked the small bullring type tracks better than the bigger faster tracks because they were more suited to my type of driving (you need have throttle control, a good set up and a little skill as opposed to just the most horse power).

I don't think anyone should write off any track without running it first.  If after practice you don't feel safe, pack it up and go home.  Who knows, you might decide that it is the most fun track you've run.

Good luck to all the racers and hope to see you there  Grin

Well time for another old story so cuddle up to the fire and have some popcorn while Wizard here tells you the story of the Castaic Nationals...

Must have been about 1978-79 and Nationals were scheduled for the lower lake at Castaic near Magic Mountain, Valentia CA. Huge turnout most classes had at about full classes of 12 boats even the three jet classes except KJ which had 6-7. The night before everyone went to magic mountain and we closed the place.  Wild boat racers at a theme park with a lot of wild rides is a formula for disaster but that is for yet another fire side chat...

Morning of the race at the Drivers meeting the race director stands in front of us and the first item on his list is. " Well boys the lake is a little low and turn one meshures about 9-10 lanes wide.  If anyone in a class with more than nine boats feels uncomfortable about running raise you hands and well have to split it up into qualifying races before the heats in order to keep the count down. Of course if you don't qualify you won't be running in the Nationals. So now anyone here not want to run twelve boats in a heat?" Not a hand in the air. Most were kept in pockets to make sure APBA understood. After all when ever did twelve boat get to turn one at the same time?  Head dude's next item... "Ok then all of you here know how to race your all qualified from previous experience. We launch over here and we pick up over there. Have fun Meeting over."

There is your "Heart" we all ran a too small course with too many boats.  No one ended up on the beach, no one ended up mad, we just ran it cause that was the way it was.

Of course there are other stories about that race too. Like my class SKI JET but that's for another day so hop into bed and sleep tight little racers dream of your next big race, but remember the ones you think you don't like may be the ones you'll love to remember forever.

I can tell you from my limited racing career on the rivers, not only does it cost everything you have money wise, but the time commitment is rediculous.

Although Circle racing is (or maybe should be) easier on equipment than whitewater rock dodging, there are a lot more races to get to.

We only had three or four races a year in this country, so unless you had an endless supply of the green stuff to ship your shit overseas (New Zealand, Austraila and Canada) then there was no way to win a World Championship..

I would agree with the comment about unless you have run it, don't discount it. If you were to look at the Trinity River in Willow Creek Ca., you would have to be 2/3 insane to think you could run a 100MPH jetboat up it, but they do, and from what I am told, the most fun you can have fully clothed.... Wink  Our "junk" never ran well enough to run the Trinity, wish we had. The race was normally pretty close to the Rogue River time wise, couldn't thrash hard enough to get our Band Aids to stick... Thumbs Down

I saw a race several years ago, all the "B" class boats were a DNS except one, came in third overall and only averaged 45 MPH, beat most of the boats that normally averaged over 90 MPH, his exact words at the end of the race, "Boy, we passed a lot of broken shit! Glad she only broke simple stuff". That shows you how often a $2 part can park you and make you feel insignifigant and small....

I have a ton of respect for anyone with the good fortune to get to go racing, only because I know first hand what it takes to do...

You Comp guys are going with one boat one motor....Try one boat, two motors and enough crap to build a third....The expense is almost stupid. Sad

I will not be racing this year, even though I had somewhat planned on it, the economy is too wierd and I am struggling to keep my shit together economically right now, but if I fix my situation well enough, next year looks pretty promising... Thumbs Up I am not running a fiberglass hull though...It goes against my instinct of what works... Sly

If time becomes available in the near future, I would love to offer some of my time and help out with crew duties...lemme know..

Dude u r a ....."Brads Junk." Bang Head
I'm sure Lance is refering to Brads Junk, like My Junk, and His Junk.
Brad's Junk wouldn't start, Lance's Junk lost oil pressure and My Junk blew up.
Cake is the one outta line here. If he wants to be a Brad groupie or start an 888 fan club thats fine, but I dont care to be refered to as one of those fockers.

im not sure cake meant exactly, but it obviously ruffled some feathers.

no one wants to break down, no one here wants anyone else to break down.

ya, racing is racing, but racing wont happen if you dont have boats either.

One of the coolest things that happened that thanksgiving weekend happened on thanksgiving day. The R&D Family invited us all down to their place south of parker to test. 313, 21, 888, 426, and 515 were all there hangin out, watching each other run, bullshitting, getting rides in the 313, etc. Yes, we are all competitors to each other, but we were there helping each other out getting all the boats ready to run for the race. That day amongst everyone there, 2 motors were lost during testing. it was a real bummer because i was really looking forward to run amongst all of the people there. That being said, it bums me out when this groupie term is being tossed around.

Lance was using 'Junk' loosely. We all have engine woes...and that weekend, each and every one of us were fighting demons and gremlins in our boats. When my engine wouldnt start, I was so pissed i could have pulled the plugs and let it sit on the bottom of the river. We all have dumped tons of money, blood, sweat and tears into our boats and when shit goes haywire on race day, it is the most frustrating thing ever. There is nothing you can do to prevent every single thing from happening. nothing is reliable on a race motor. nothing.

as far as enginedoctor gettin all wound up, I dont blame him. Hes got a ton of hours into my motor, of course hes gunna take offense if someone calls it junk. He machined one hell of a motor for me and theres no words to describe how pleased i am with his work and craftsmanship that he did on it. He really takes pride in his work. yes, he did misunderstand the context of the term used. I hope dave reads this and understands where lance was really coming from. I personally didnt take offense to it, but I could understand where others would.

and yes, its winter time. let the drama roll on.  Wink

Hey u guys i been reading this thing about brawley (WEIST LAKE). Well im originally from brawley an i have been out there to many times. I have ran my picklefork jetboat out there an yes i do run out of lake quick , but for people who have balls that lake would be perfect for circle racing. It would bring the roar out of weist lake, especially to this small community. I bet alot of people would go if annouced......so cut the shit out and come down an do your guys shit. Grin
