Driving Questions
« on: March 21, 2008, 04:47:27 PM »
Hi Guys,

I know rookie drivers start on the most outside lane. Do all drivers stay in the same lane all race, or if you get a length or two ahead can you move to a different lane?

Any driving tips or strategies (that you're willing to share?)

Thx,

Bill

as a qualified driver, you must stay in your lane through turn 1 after the green flag, then you can change lanes as long as there is a 6 boat distance between you and the boat you are advancing on.

Thanks Brad.

As I understand it, rookies must wear an "X" on the back of their helmets the first year. To become a qualified driver, 4 fellow racers and a referee must vouch for you.
Is that close?

Also, until qualified you can only advance as far in the field as the ref determines, say no higher that 5 in an 8 boat field. Close?

Hi Ralph,

Sorry for all the questions. I printed off the "2008 APBA Rules for Inboard Racing"
and the "2008 APBA General Safety Rules". I've read through it all a couple of times
but CJ/NJ doesn't seem to be specifically mentioned. I am not yet a member but I know
I need to join to participate.

Thx,

Bill

bill you will have to see the referee after each heat, just to check in and make sure that you are doing ok.
that being said your biggest critics will be your fellow racers and as long as you dont drive like an ass you will be ok. i know its all confusing at first but trust me you will be ok.
if you have a way to get a hold of the moyles (spelling) i think they are in Idaho and could guide you well. if you cant get ahold of them let us know and we will try to put you in contact

Thanks for the tip Ralph. I know some Minnegars into the hot boat scene
up here, but no moyles. I'll check the book.

Thanks to all you vets for your patience...
