For whatever my .02 are worth.
I really dont think a low boat count in this economy is going to be huge suprise to anyone.
I really think it's expected.
I also see the point of NOT wanting non-cj boats out there running, especially an unsafe one and a supposed image that might portray.

Only we as insiders really know the ins and outs so to speak as to what the end results are by having said boats out there running just to have enough boats but from shore it'll just look like another Comp Jet class.
At the end of the day, it's going to come down to a COMP JET class running that weekend.
The black and white of it all is that whether or not these "other" boats are CJ boats or not, through the toughest of times, people are "rounding up the troops" to drag this through to the end.
I commend those who can for this.
I say show up, and race.
If you dont like it, dont race  :-\ .

Racing is not manditory and lets not forget that it's the competative spirit, THE DRIVE, the want of the end result, win lose or draw that made this class and if there isnt even a little piece of you that is chasing the pot at the end of the rainbow, your kidding yourself.
Lets not forget all those Nosty Races nobody (OK, just me) was ready for and we did what we had to to make it happen.
Dont give an inch guys.
Everyone knows the risks and a conscience decision by the drivers will be made to drive or not.
sorry for the long rant

Is somebody on the wagon?

Well said Senior Omar!

I would be willing to go out on the limb and say all of the classes see fewer boats running in all classes, just my .02 from the outside looking in....

I think if they want to race, then let them race.

And lets not argue about it here  ;)

GT - I am going to go out on a limb here and say the economy has no blame in this argument. There is only 1 boat that I know of thats not showing up due to lack of money because of the economy.

HBjr - good luck with the weekend, we can both fight about this until our fingers bleed and we're blue in the face - I just dont agree with it. Non-competitive boats shouldnt be let out on the course. Its like taking my daily driver to a NASCAR event. Its just silly.

I just wanted to apologize for not being able to make it.  Motor not ready, no way to break it in, and driving through snow the whole way just doesnt work.  Good luck to all who race.  Looking forward to March at Puddingstone.

Whoa.... holy cow fellas....

Yes the Hondo will be racing. To be completely honest I planned on racing this season anyways.... will it handle near as good as the other Comp Jet's? Hell no. Will it hold it's own in the straights and over rough water.... yup. I wanted to build the boat up more during the winter, to make it turn better, but due to this economy I wasn't able to make it  :-\ But I was indeed intending on racing it. Common sense will let the driver know what to do, and what not to do in this boat.... is this boat considered dangerous? If you're trying to make Harold Bruce style turns then yes  ;) But the driver will NOT be going balls out chasing after the field in the turns.... it will turn fine, but I don't expect/want it do be aggressive in the turns.... But hey it would still be faster than Brad's liberty at Lake Ming through the turns (yes poke intended  ;D). But anywho, racing's racing.... not everyone agrees... and that's the way it will always be.

Let me say that I am an outsider to circle racing boats but not to motorsports racing in general.  It should be expected that the classes will not be as full as they might have been given the weather, the economy, and individual racers' circumstances that's true.  But I agree with Omar and others that to many spectators, they will not know from shore who is 100% class legal and who is not.  I say if this is the payoff for your hard work, why not race?   The race will go on whether some individuals want to bow out or not.  I say the more the merrier and line 'em up.  Let's go racing!

And in regards to pwTony and his boat, I can only compare it to motocross.  Some bikes handle better in turns, some handle better on straights, some do both well but not great, and some are only great in specific situations and just OK in others.  Rookie drivers are going to stay outside and try to stay out of the way if they are smart.  "Run what you brung" has been the racers motto for an eternity, why is it different now?

Fock -- did I really say I agreed with Omar???
"Go ahead Rivertard does it.  Take a video though."

Re: Big picture
« Reply #88 on: February 12, 2009, 11:56:02 AM »
Looking at the big picture, and yes, since CJ is no longer a "local" class, it has to be considered part of the big picture. CJ is now a national class. That means nationwide, CJ racers are gearing up to compete. I can speak from "class filling" experience that it is done everywhere, in most classes, on a regular basis. If some of the CJ racers choose not to run a specific event, so be it. The race will go on with, or without you. As a group you are no longer a local club, you are part of an APBA class. The "original" group can do whatever they chose, but believe me, the racers in other national regions will do what ever it takes to make their CJ races APBA point races. At this stage of the season points seem far away, but towards the end of the season they all count, and you can't go back and "do over" any races you chose not to run. Once the CJ class is placed on a sanction it can be an official race if 4 boats take a start on a given day. If the SoCal group decides not to run they are in reality, just deciding not to run.

The Pro Stocks are on the sanction but we, PS89, chose not to race this one for a variety of reasons. I hope any other PS boats that want to race have a class. BTW, this IS the very first race we have pulled out of in twenty plus years.......And as a "racer" it was really tough to do. It is what it is. ;D ;D.....Ray

I say run Comp Jet with Comp Jets if the turn out is low any guy out there that wants to go race will say "Hay I'll go Comp Jet because I might have a chance with fewer boats in the class"  How do you think it all started back in the 70's?  You didn't watch a race and go " Gee I think I'll drop a barrel of cash into an SS boat because there are so many of them they have to have qualifying" No the new guys gravitated to the smaller classes.  In my case it was a no brainer.

Worrying about the next race is for the people that won't be at this race. The class got pushed through the APBA so this race will be a points race. I feel we all look stupid after everybody busted their ass to get it pushed through. The promoter had to change the sanction to get IE comp jet on the bill. The boats that will be out there this race will be "legal" as a comp jet boat. Why not let rookie drivers "myself included" get seat time with a low boat count race? Sounds kinda stupid not to show up for the 1st legal Comp jet race don't ya think?

Re: Boat inspection/close class?
« Reply #96 on: February 12, 2009, 07:01:14 PM »
Your boat can be inspected at the race site. If you don't pass find me, I'll help you do what ever it takes to get thru tech.

As far as "close the class" goes, that isn't how its done. Once a class is approved and on the sanction, it is a GO. IF not enough boats show up (4) for a legal class, it is not un usual for the boats that do show up to go out and race anyway. Points will not be awarded, but racers want to race. New drivers want/need seat time. Veteran racers can always use a little more "testing"......It is not necessary to "close the class". APBA will either receive race results from a legitimate race, or they won't.  It is too late to even attempt to "close the class" for this race. Actually, in two decades I've never heard of any class "closing" because of low boat count, or lack of advance interest by the  racers.

Imagine, if you will, 4 boats on the road from Florida right now. All 4 are CJ boats that saw the printed sanction and decided to come race. :o :o See, you can't just "close the class" because you don't think there will be enough boats. Big picture guys, big picture......

Brad, IF, (a big IF) you were running a Chevy I would have offered to loan you an engine so you could compete. OR IF I had a Ford, (another big IF), I would have offered you an engine for this race. Trust me Brad, there will be nothing shady or edgy when it comes to SAFETY and new/inexperienced drivers. NO un safe/illegal boat will be allowed to compete. As the guy that sells suits says, "I guuaaaarantttee it". No I'm not a race or class official, but if I see something un safe It WILL be addressed thoroughly.....That, you can take to the bank.....Lets have some fun this season guys. Lets show APBA and the IE racers that CJ is the "real deal"......I think its great you guys can help each other and make decisions as a group. (SoCalJets), but APBA is the big picture here and you've got to start thinking "Nationwide".............Ray

talked to terry today....both heats today ended in this order:

1st - Lance
2nd - Jim
3rd - Lewis
4th - rookie driving the hondo (didnt get his name)

first heat was a mess...i guess they started them on a clock start without even telling them....so they all had no idea what was going on.....the rookie spun out in the hondo

second heat was better and went smoother

theres not much competition out there as lance is almost lapping the entire field.....lewis and jim rich had a little battle for seconds place with the rookie in behind them.
