That's Ryan Ringer driving Tim Harding's #U333 "Burning Desire"... with a helicopter turboshaft jet engine (General Electric T58) making 1485 HP.  They're able to sustain 135 mph; these engines are most efficient when running at max power, continuously!  It's the future of the sport...

Holy Shit!

Wow

That's Ryan Ringer driving Tim Harding's #333 Burning Desire... which has a 1485 HP helicopter GE-T58 gas turbine jet engine.

fly-by on YouTube

You are correct...Did you go to Hoopa this year?

I was digging araound the other day and found out there will be at least 3 Turbine powered boats in this next year running unlimited.... :screwy:

I am thinking the CX class woud be the bomb diggity, they will be running a 525 hp crate motor class- 90+ MPH. Seems like it could keep a cap on costs..

I heard a story about Mexico not allowing the turbine team to buy fuel at the worlds...WTF?

Welcome aboard

No, but next season I will try to be there.  When is Hoopa 2011?   I have a new upcoming boat being designed, #U355 "Psycho X" ... with a BIG turbine, built to run on 100% biodiesel (Go Green!), or nearly anything else we can dump into it, so in Mexico (WTF is their problem?!!), that might end up being Tequila, eh?

AFAIK, there are now 2 turbines from USA (U333 and U355), 3 from Canada (with up to 4 more on the way), plus 1 or 2 from New Zealand, maybe more?  Finally the Unlimited class is taking a major leap ahead, and it should definitely help resurrect the popularity of the sport.  I sure hope so!

Totally; the crate-motor classes are really cool.  Besides the initial cost savings, I think the longevity will add even more to their value.  Definitely will be fun!
