What do you mean the powers that be? Who? What did they try to do?

At some point Donna made a comment about Ron getting disqualified for taking off some of his saftey equipment before the boat was on the trailer. And it just so happend to be the heat Ron took second over Jim.

Hey Ron,
From my birds eye view on the lift, I think you had a chance at beating Jim. It looked like you were drifting to lane 5 in the turns making each lap a country mile.

The boat looks great and it was cool seeing you race!!!

- Jerry

Thanks Jerry, I gotta admit that I left alot of room between Jim and I. Since this was my first race and I am the rookie with the big X on the back of my helmet, I didn't want to cause any reason for a complant because of my lane position. I'm suppose to run the outside and did my best to stay out there. Jim's boat seams a little loose to me but thats the way he likes it so that was another reason for me to give him a wide berth. I figured if something were to happen the rookie would be at fault. As these guys feel more comfortable with me i'll tighten it up. Lance and Jim were running for points, and I think most thought I was just cruising for seat time. I gotta admit on the last lap of the final it was a drag race on the back stretch were I caught Jim but as I went thru the corner I started losing power by the end of the corner we had dropped a cylinder. The boys did a compresion check on it this afternoon and #1 had 135 psi, and #5 had 60 the rest were 170. Looks like we lost two motor this weekend, but it was all worth it. We'll be back.

Actually Donna overheard an official saying it.... and could care less if the Helmets were took off, because Jim did the same thing  ::) After seeing Terry looking in the rule book, she kept telling him that if they called them on the Helmet deal that it would be BS, etc etc.... But I do like the way things get twisted  :screwy:

I'll just consider the source of the petty insults, and hope that someday you too, can actually have a life.

I was on the ramp when Donna tried to tell the drivers to put the helmets and jackets back on.(Jim included)..The officals from the tower side were talking to the ramp crew asking for boat numbers of the offenders. APBA rules clearly state that helmets and jackets MUST be worn until the boat is trailered. (UNLESS UNDER TOW BACK TO THE RAMP AFTER THE HEAT IS OVER) Because of the way the ramp was being handled there were always boats waiting for their trailers, some times for 5 plus minutes, maybe 10 at times because of the gridlock on the pit road. The ramp crew wasn't enforcing the helmet/jacket rule, kinda looking the other way as a lot of the drivers were removing safety gear while waiting. Rules are rules and could have been enforced. (There were races being run during the waiting time) To hammer Donna for trying to prevent any penalties is just wrong, real wrong. If she were doing so to gain an advantage she certainly wouldn't have warned the competition.......To add insults toward her could have some dire consequences and I feel an apology is warranted. I know none of the CJ racers are responsible for the asswipe insults. As for the internet bad asses, do all the CJ racers a favor and crawl back under your rock. To the CJ racers, read the rule book. Try that stunt at Parker next month and see how fast Ross DISQUALIFYS YOUR BOAT......Ray

Here ya go:
3. Helmets and Life Jackets: A driver (and passenger, if any) when operating registered equipment at any time while at a sanctioned regatta, must
wear complete safety equipment, including helmet and life jacket, except where exempt, with the following exception: Helmets may be removed only
(1) when the boat is stopped or operated off-plane at idle speed and (2) when there are no other race boats operating onplane on the race course or in
the vicinity so as to create a danger.

If you go back and read my orginal post I said "At some point Donna made a comment about Ron getting disqualified for taking off some of his saftey equipment" I did not say when it happend or where it happend or what her intentions were , if she was warning him so he did not get in trouble that's very nice of her. I never implied anything else.

Re: Rules
« Reply #118 on: March 30, 2009, 11:30:59 PM »
For all PRACTICABLE purposes the rules were bent. There was a race going on 100 yds, or less, away. The rule could have been enforced as the tower requested. The ramp crew felt there was not a safety issue and did not make a big deal out of it. I believe petty insults are a rule violation here on this site. Another rule issue that is not being enforced. .........Ray out

Once again I'll just consider the source of stupid responses. When you're a member of APBA they actually send you a current rule book every year. If you can read, you don't need to know everything. I can, and do, read the rule book cover to cover every year. The rules do change based on the results of the National Meeting discussions. If you are a APBA member you can attend these meetings and suggest rule changes and clarifications. Are you a member of APBA? Do you have a rule book? Have you read it? Since you weren't there and didn't see it, it would appear you're the one butting in. Why don't we discuss this at Parker. We can read the rule book together and I'll help you with the big words..........Ray
