Racers and potential racers, would you be interested in
« on: December 07, 2008, 11:25:32 AM »
A race for inboard boats only? No weed eater powered hydros, no jet skis, sea doos or any other PWCs. Here's what I'm thinking as far as classes;

Comp Jet
Comp Flat
Super Stock/Pro Stock
K Racing Runabout
Grand National

The schedule would go something like this;

Friday-
Pre race inspection, registration, pit set up
Open test & practice session

Saturday-
Individual qualifying (time trials if you will)
Qualifying Heats

Sunday-
Last Chance Qualifiers
Main Events for all classes
Awards & Celebration

This is just a rough idea in my head, it's just starting to take shape so any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Skip

looks good, but it would be a short program unless you get a lot of boats to turn out

That's kind of the point of it, be done fairly early Sat so y'all can relax, enjoy time with your families and friends, work on the boat, whatever turns your crank. Sunday would start a little later in the morning so people could attend church, eat breakfast, whatever, run the races, give out awards, people are on the way home in the late afternoon to get ready for the real world on Monday.

As gay as it might sound, I'm not in it for the money, really.  If it doesn't cost me anything out of pocket, and I pull off an event that people enjoyed, both from a racer and spectator standpoint, then I've accomplished my goal. So can I sign you up for CJ?  ;)

If we ran a nostalgia class, it'd be flats and jets together, it'd make a bigger class this way. I'm thinking of a couple different locations, Cali, a spot on the river, and another Cal location

What month are you planning this potential race in Buena Vista, and what kind of entry fee?

What month are you planning this potential race in Buena Vista, and what kind of entry fee?

Right now it's all in my head, I will be approaching the County this week to see what kind of hoops I have to jump through, I'm thinking October, or maybe Labor Day Weekend.  As for entry fees, I'll have to see what the market will bear so to speak, I'm going to try and pull off an event to remember, good purse monies, etc so that will all have an affect on the entry fees.

Do you or anyone else have any suggestions? Entry Fee? Purses? Classes? Dates? I'm taking all the advice and help I can get

Thanks fellas,
Skip

I am on the Burley Regatta Committee and I can tell you that you have your work cut out for you.  However, as a racer, I greatly appreciate it.  It would be nice to go to another race with some purse money or tow money as I prefer to call it.  Idaho is a long way from Bakersfield.  I like your tentative schedule, allowing us to spend time with family and friends.  Dont seem to be able to do that much anymore.

What's your take on it not being an APBA sanctioned points event? I'll try like hell to get their sanction, but if they don't want to play ball, I have zero problem doing this race "outlaw" style, we'll set the classes, make the rules and set the procedures. The first and foremost priority would be SAFETY, there will be no compromise on that issue, ZIP.  I'll have insurance, rescue boats, EMT's on site.  All the boats will be safe, the drivers will wear the proper equipment or they won't race, period.

I'd like to keep the fees cheap, that being said it will ultimately come down to my costs.  The more boats show up, the cheaper the entry? The purse monies will come from the fees and my sponsors, what kind of purse would y'all think is good enough to make this an event to attend?

I have no problem running as an outlaw event.  The points would be nice, but just enjoy the chance to go racing.  The amount of purse money is as important to me as how it is divided up.  I like the way we did it at Burley where the purse was divided equally amoungst the boats in the class.  It makes getting there a whole lot easier for those of us who live far away.

Hey Skip, I said it on PB already, but wanted to see what the guys and gals over here had to input...How about running the PWC's through a Gauntlet style course and run the same course as the Sprintboats, "two birds one course", that would be cool 8),

Maybe then they wont want to participate... ;)

 Sorry Skip (the thread jack),  The race sounds like a cool idea.  Buena Vista looks like a nice place, I need to make a trip down there next summer.
