Scarlata Retired?
« on: December 04, 2010, 09:08:31 AM »
I was just watching the IHBA Lucas drags on speed covering this years finals that just took place recently. They interviewed Tony Scarlata and he talked about his recent K-Boat crash in Australia. The commentator after the interview said that Tony had told him that he has retired from circle boat racing.

This bums me out as he has been one of my favorite drivers to watch at the circle boat races, but at the same time I understand and respect it. He has had some of the most serious wrecks in circle boat racing in the past few years.

It's a bummer to hear this Tony, but best of luck to you as you continue your drag boat racing ventures.

Sometimes knowing when to hang your helmet is the smartest thing that could happen to you.

My guess would be he thought maybe his Guardian Angle was getting tired...He is fun to watch though...

Thanks for the excitement Tony... 8)

Glad to hear that, when you have close calls such as he has. His body and mind are telling him it's time. I spent 20 years in the East driving the the fastest , ERR, E&F service, ski, SS. I roled a 16 ft Patterson in Dayton, OH in the ski divisionals. It drove from the right side and always wonder how I ever would come out well I did. Did a simular roll like Tony, luckly came out ok put a hole in the deck with my head. However I continued to drive but always had the flip on my mind every time the boat made a motion. When you have these things on your mind and not soley on driving it's time to leave. He has nothing to prove, hard charger.

I know that after flipping the SS83 he swore he would never drive anything but a capsule boat again.  It really must be hard on him, being the competetor that he is and especially when he wins in just about every boat that he drives.
