He is new to racing. He also did a great job. Only spun the boat once and recovered very well. Ron didn't have enough power to catch him and mark didn't have enough to catch nick so that's how it finished. Congrats to nick and Terry on a great weekend. We only had 1 boat go down this weekend so that was good and c/j put on a good show. Can't wait for burley!

what was the results of the final heat and the overall results of the comp jets

final heat on sunday was as follows:

21
169
511
72
51
20 (DNS - had a rod knock and didnt race this heat)

i dont know the overall results as i didnt stick around for the awards, but i assume the podium was as follows:

21
169
511

the above results i posted from each race are not official - there was some confusion with some of the boats if they actually completed all 4 laps due to being lapped.

I've never seen anyone celebrate getting lapped.  ::)

they had a tough weekend fighting gremlins....he was just stoked to finish the race.

the jetboat plus guys from havasu are a real cool group of dudes.....lots of beers and smack talkin with that camp this weekend....a bunch of their crew brought their boats down for after the races and we headed up river to go float with them....good times.

Brad, you can answer this probably best. What are the rookie rules for the class? I thought anyone new to racing was required to run at the back of the pack for a season unless the on site APBA official cleared that driver after seeing him run in competition. Finishing second and first in the heats would not be considered "back of the pack" back in the day and would probably gotten my licience lifted if I had tried it. Don't get me wrong I congratulate them on what appears to be a great running boat and I don't want newbies not racing because they can't "win" for a while but the original intent of the rookie rule was a good safety and experience gathering tool. What is the rule?

You are correct. I do not know the situation behind what was said or what happened. there was no protesting from what i saw amongst the racers. i was purley a spectator at this event.

I heard in passing he or his father did used to race compjet 15 years or so ago before it died. dont know anymore then it was just said in passing.

either way....first timer or not....he did very well and looked like a seasoned racer out there.

Maybe someone else can chime in and shed some light to your question. Sorry I dont have the answers.

Well I have been protested and protested, both in boats and motorcycles; for equipment, course cutting and other things. But never the better driver/rider, so for me no foul.

Ken i want to commend you for coming out expecting to run NJ and being told you would be running with the comp jets. Hope you had a good time. As for rookie drivers it was really a rookie driver race weekend. The referee did not want a rookie driver setting the pace for the start so CJ 511 volunteered to start them on Sat and  on sunday we had CJ 21 start  the first race. The rules state that a rookie driver shall advance to a pre determined position for 4 heats then they will be allowed to advance again to a pre determined position foe the second 4 heats and must recieve the the approval from 4 qualified drivers to become fully race qualified. Since this could not be accomplished with only 2 qualified drivers we determined after watching the first heat to allow them to race competatively. They put on a good showing with no issues .I want to commend all of them for a good weekend.

If your in for fifty, 4 laps will be a piece of cake.
And alot cheaper.
See you there Ken.

Terry thanks for the clarification.  I can understand that letting two race while the others are sitting back watching is no way to build the class and I'm glad all went well. Congrats to all.
