Blower surge on a carbed engine = poor tuning. The only real reason you should be surging with a carb is to save your transmission/outdrive etc with mega horsepower when putting it in gear. At least that's how it's been explained to me by some very reputable engine builders.

I heard the same . A blower motor on the lean side will definatly detonate and burn a hole in the pistons . Next thing you know Rods scratching his head wondering what the fuk happened . Running a blower motor on the rich side also helps cool the intake charge .

I'll letcha know inna few days, mines ready to fire up. I'll try to get it videoed whem i start and tune it. And yea, i've heard to drop it in gear on the low side of the lope but then again i've heard the lope is between 800-1500 RPMs

Surging is actually caused by the engine burning up the small amount of fuel being pissed in at idle. As it burns up this fuel the blower forces more vacuum and the carb has no choice but to let fuel through the annular boosters. So no, blower surge is caused because the blower is forcing a rich-lean-rich-lean situation not because the carb tuning is rich. There are fouled plugs, then there are blower surge fouled plugs... I'm not an engine builder by any means, I'm definitely just an assembler... How often do you see a professionally built/tuned engine that's not a blown alcohol injection motor surging?

Example, my buddy's boat ( ) before tuning the carb. Sounds bitchin, but it's really a sign of poor tuning. Or maybe some people just like the sound.

well, we should see today. mine was running smooth and quiet when i took it apart. i've gone up four jet sizes, but thats it. I was just showing color on the plugs so i fattened it up a bit, everything else is exactly the same....

Took care of a lotta details while she was apart. Still flooding the exhaust with the Bassett tee in it, gotta put a contriol valve on it too.

Ok so can I contribute too This is a motor Josh built for my neighbor and (buddy) Hondo Hal a couple season back ,on this day everyone fired thier motors in the cove @ 7;00 pm as a tribute to a "freind who passed"

And then theres the cruiser (destined for a fresh motor and bigger blower this month)... and yeah I always forget to turn the Cam off lol

Sorry to sound like a total novice, but will the surge of a carburated blown motor hurt the motor??  Between the surge and the whine of the belt- those are the 3 biggest reasons for me to buy a blower- and I guess the HP is cool too O0

I actually took the video in the first posts. I checked on you tube the other day and was amazed at how many views it had!
This motor was built and tuned by George at Clay Smith for my father in law. It is now in a Daytona seeing low 90's with no problems... still surging. I have heard mixed opinions on this and will continue to trust the builder.

On a blown injected gas motor,alky is different, some surge is normal. I've only done 1 blown injected gas set-up. The injection pump,unless it's overdriven, spins at 1/2 motor soeed. Even running the idle check valve at a higher presure only helps so much.The barrel valve has to be on the rich side for any type of snappy response. There is no accelerator pump!. In the vid you can see him blip the throttle. It's snappy. Good to go. Alway go rich in the tune up. Then back it down. Hope that helps.
