New Jet Boater! Saved boat from doom!
« on: September 13, 2011, 11:19:02 PM »
Hi everybody! My name is Conrad and I am looking forward to being part of the SCJB community!
I recently joined the boating world by helping a friend in need. I am just hoping I didnt get the smelly end of the stick. He was in need of a vehicle bad and so I traded my car for his old jet boat. I paid 3k for the car that I traded him.
He was actually going to pull the motor, ditch the boat, burn it, then turn it into insurance... ??? :screwy:
I have already got the motor (454BBC) started after replacing two freeze plugs that had been frozen out. No visual cracks on the block, So it started and ran like poo, he told me it wasnt running right last time he took it out. It was back firing through the carb so after some digging I found 5 flat lobes on cam and chewed up lifters, some worn down valve stems, water in the oil ETC. Took the heads off and cylinders are in okay shape, pulled the motora and  took the oil pan off and cant SEE any cracks in the block on the inside. Not sure if the water in the oil is from the Bassets or a crack or a blown head gasket... the gaskets looked ok.
Cats made a nest in the boat last winter in which he failed to cover for the winter and they marked it up... !! Break out the psi washer and odo ban!
It does need some work on the bottom too, looks like it was ran into something.. long scratch in the finish and a couple cracks along the scratch on the bottom... I will post some pics off the hull damage later.
All I can find via the HIN is that its from a company no longer around called Mako PleasureCraft INC. A HIN search showed a couple digits on the HIN are questionable so im concerned...
Any body know of them?
If anything I kept a friend from fraud, helped him out with a ride, got a boat, and saved the boat from a horrible death! LOL
It is definitely a project...
So let me know what you think of it!

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I was thinking Beisemeyer or Saguaro at first glance, but yeah, I think Ralph's right. If not, a damn good copy!  Nice Float!

I've heard of split bowl but do not know of its meaning or function... please fill me in!

Thanks Ray. The HIN starts MKB, would. Mako PleasureCraft Inc have the mold to build it at the time or I wonder it they just received a bare Hull and then installed the components? Not sure how all that works LOL.

Pull the motor out, ditch it in the hills, torch it to make it look like it was stolen for the motor and do an insurance claim... :o Originally told me I could have the motor if I pulled it for him then I found out what his plan was. Figured I didnt want to be involved in that so made the offer to trade my car for it! After all what good would the motor all by itself do me? lol  ;D

I'm referring to the bowl on the jet . the steering nozzle bolts on the back of the bowl on yours, making it simple to add  a droop snoot or  a wedge . other models have the steering cast in to it and you cant do much with them. this way your already one step ahead ;)

When I first brought the boat home I did get bit by a hornet or wasp when I stuck my finger right in their nest when unhooking the trailer.. They had it on the inside of the frame rail up close to the tongue.  :sly:
