Post by: hdman6767 on December 13, 2006, 12:39:13 AM
I HAVE A PROBLEM HOOKED UP MY BATTERY CHARGER ONE DAY AND THE COIL STARTED SMOKING I WENT TO CHECK THE IGNITION TO SEE IF I HAD LEFT IT ON BUT IT WAS OFF. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I know this is an old post (well not that old lol) but...

Your ignition switch could be shorted. If you have a test light, with the ignition key off see if you have power on the coil wire.

If you do, disconnect the wires from the back of the ignition switch and check it again. If the light is no longer on, the switch is your culprit. If you still have power there, then you have faulty wiring someplace.

Hope this helps.
