Title: I need to find some engine info!!
Post by: Marcsrollin on January 25, 2007, 08:32:24 AM
I bought a factory hi performance 429 ford big block built by Hardin Marine , it came out of a 1978 Eliminator jet boat and I need to find out the cam spec's so my carb guy can dial in my tunnell ram.
So far i have had no luck with Eliminator or Hardin Marine , Does any body have any suggestions on how I can go about finding the info?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated , MARC!

You/our carb guy is going to have to do a "best guess" rebuild on your carbs and tune it to how it runs afterwards... did you google your marine 429?

you say factory high perf, to the best of my knowledge it's not over 400hp so i would venture to say that the cam is no bigger than .500 lift. the best guy to ask is paul kane also known as lakes only on hot boat or 460.com

I can't understand why anyone would need cam specs to dial in a T/R.  I don't know that Hardin Marine ever offered a 429.  Regardless of whether its a 429 or a 460, the Hardin Marine spec cam was around 488 INT 498 EXH or somewhere thereabouts.

The T/R will help, but engine's factory heads will begine backing up in the exhaust ports above about 4500 rpm with that setup.  Porting of the factory D3VE heads exhaust port on those engines is paramount for any substantial performance improvment.  The engine will run fine and run strong just as is, but with the portwork, it will be transformed a la Jeckyl and Hyde.

Stock 325 HP cam is: 214/218 deg@.050 lift is about: .480/.498 and it is WAY too small for a tunnel ram. Performer RPM airgap with an 850 DP is the weapon of choice.   TIMINATOR
