Hey everyone, brand new member here. I just recently bought my first jet boat and I am looking to get some advice. I have spent my whole life around boats and the river but my pops never had a Jet. I bought a 1990 19 ft. Pioneer with a 350 Chevy and Berkeley pump. I am looking for advice as to what routine maintenance should be done on the boat and what I should know or do before getting out on the river.
welcome to the site-
Bring a credit card and a cell phone, and drive it like ya stole it.
But seriously...
before your first time-
Fuel filters
front pump bearing
wheel bearings
check all the hoses
belts
steering connections
fwd rev hoperation
bilge pump
all the safety stuff (vests, throw-able, fire ext, etc)
Over all condition of the motor-
plugs, wires, cap n rotor
any oil leaks and oil level
rubber exhaust hoses and flappers
battery and connections
registration
DRAIN PLUG
ice chest/boat sodas
Trailer-
running lights, etc
tire condition
spare tire
loose bunks
rear tie downs
There is prolly a lot I'm missing. I have usually went out on a weekday, got the boat wet, and fire it up right on the trailer, and let it warm up for a while, 5-10 mins.
I've had a few leaks, missing temp sender, (my fault, lol,) steering connection inside the transom dripping, fuel dripping from rear bowl, and one alternator not charging, and one alt. belt flipped up-side-down. (lasted all weekend

)
OH and its the only true power steering. No power, No steering.
Thats all I got for now.
