What would you do?
« on: January 31, 2012, 09:47:44 PM »
I need a plan here guys.   Heads coming off a 460 Ford in the Spectra to replace a bad valve.  I believe the head read D V3 A2A. And the intake is the SCJ iron Ford piece.  Bottom end seems real tight and is nothing super hi performance.  Hull is Spectra 20/Berk.

Do I just do the repair and a valve job on heads and call it good?
Use as core for better FoMoCo heads (maybe mild porting) and bolt to existing shortblock?
Look for aftermarket heads like Ebrocks used?

I will probably never have the money to build more than 550 HP but it seems like a reasonable time to think about "what if" . . .

OK, What makes you think a bad valve to justify head removal in the first place John? I would bring into serious question how only 1 valve could fail. Now I COULD EASILY beleive a lifter failed or collapsed, bent pushrod, broken rocker or stud, etc. NONE of which requires head removal. At worst, maybe timing set or at absolute worst, cracked head. That is another matter.

Second, assuming all else is good, sounds like a good plan. Yer motor is VERY resilient to stupid $hit, beleive it or not, so why only one BAD valve?

That would be the line of questionong I would start with John.
