sand car stroller(need some stuff)
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:46:32 AM »
So I am building a scaled down sand car chassis for a stroller for the little one on the way. I am in need of some wheels and tires. Like from a 50cc or mini atv. If anyone has any please let me know. Also some shocks. From the same style atv, or rhino or golf cart or something. Thanks. Ill get some pics as the progress comes alongila_rendered]

If I can find them, I have a set of stock 250x shocks I would donate to a cool project. I’m guessing there around 14'' extended. They might me a little too big for what you want. Let me know if I can help

Awesome idea there Brandon!

Personally, I would be looking at something a lot more narrow and hard compared to gokart, 2 wheel truck, or golf cart wheels/tires. Going to be VERY HARD to push/navigate (impossible to steer) around on squishy/wide/ small diameter tires dude, no matter how cool they look  ;)  Mrs Nordic can plug in here any time she wants, but from experience, solid, hard wheels/tires are the way to go here, limited surface patch, etc.

Try and find some good lookin, SOLID wheelbarrow wheels/tires. With your skills, you can make them look trick!! ;) And, just me, I would mount the seat using some old valvesprings to create a rocking action when using.........you'll thank me later for that one  ;)

Looks awesome but I will admit I would hate to pull or push that thing around. You gonna set it up like a wagon so you can pull it around and steer or rig some kind of steering handle from the rear?

Here is where its at right now. I have off road wheel barrow tires for it, but I think they need to be bigger. I also have a Latest Rage end load rack and pinion for it. It will be pushed and steered from the rear. It wont weight that much, and is rolling with bearings. With the working suspenseion and steering it will roll and turn very well

Well, now I feel like an ass. I went to pick up the shocks from our storage shed where they were not too long ago and I couldn’t find them, so I asked my dad about them and he said one of my brothers sold them recently. I’m sorry I got your hopes up and I will keep looking and see if any of my friends have some you could use.

No problem. If you come across any let me know. I am going to build the arms and steering, and just use tubing tacked up in place of shocks untill I get some. I will them build mounts based on length.

I also wanted to mention I saw a guy at an auto swap a few years ago and he had a large radio flyer style wagon loaded with parts, but on the back axle he had a small Briggs & Stratton hooked up.  He ran a cable up the steering bar with a trigger for the throttle, and walked and steered this thing just like a regular wagon. If this gets to be too heavy or if you are pushing this thing up a lot of hills, you might be able to fab something like this to help out.  Just an idea…

You should put a little power wheels motor in it with a controller that way all you have to do is walk behind it.

I have been asked about a motor so many times. I built this thing more as a novelty item. The whole thing has been built with thin wall tubing to keep the weight down, so no motor. As for an ice chest, that is a moust. it will get a mount right in the back where the motor would go in a full size car. also room for a diaper bag as well.

I just acquired a 70's golf cart and it has 4 honey comb style springs and shocks. They are not a coil over style but if you trim a coil off either end you could probably stuff a shock through it and make some buckets or something like that. Their about a foot tall and the shocks seem to only allow 6 inches of travel. If you want em their yours.
