Engine Paint Time
« on: March 09, 2010, 11:02:54 PM »
Hey.. So tomorrow its supposed to be nasty weather, which puts a hold on painting my trailer outdoors. I can still rattle can the block and heads in the garage though. Plan on just going to napa and getting their high temp stuff. Biggestest question is the color. I know you CANT go wrong with black, but how much fun is that? Im thinking orange or maybe orange with blue heads? What do you guys think? Dont want it to look like a circus in the back of the boat but at the same time I want it to stand out a bit. Like they say.. If its slow.. It better be shinny! Running a kinda low intake with chrome valve covers and chrome scoop. Other than that it will be mostly paint. Heres a couple pics of the boat to help me with color scheme..

I'm kind of burnt out on basic black.  I painted mine Chevy Orange but it's close to the orange on my boat

I like the looks of the light grey if you want it to blend in.  Go blue or orange to make it pop out a little (the only time I would do the block and heads different colors is if the heads were aluminum)

It's gonna look great no matter what you do  ;D

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Well, Just ran to Napa to buy paint. They only had the orange/red as far as orange went. So blue it is! I just painted the block and heads. Bad news though, when I finished and grabbed the cap to put back on the can.. it says OLD FORD BLUE!!! So chances are, the Chevy will NEVER run, or more likely, melt the ford right off of her! Next question is.. How hot do you think boat headers than are ran with water get? They have "header" paint there thats rated at 1200 degrees, which I dont believe AT ALL. Depending how clean I can get my headers, paint might be the last choice. I dont feel like spending a bunch to get em coated this season!

wish i woulda caught this one sooner...i personally would have painted the motor yellow, cause you got very little yellow, and it would have popped well, but hey ford blue will work

header paint wet or dry is not going to work...also if you plan on anyone being in the back seat run the headers wet! it will also muffle the sound a little bit! coating is your only option if you feel you cant bring the chrome back...i have had excellent luck with aluminum polish it really brings the chrome back out on the headers

and you can get em to look like this!

If im not posting..I'm pooping!

I am trying to paint my headers with the high temp rattle can stuff.  If it doesnt work out I'm not losing sleep over it, they were pretty rough to begin with.  I figure though with the water injection they should be alright.
