78 eliminator 18ft bubbledeck

:mad:ila_renderedila_renderedhey guys. love this site! so far i've received good knowledgeable advice/opinions here. Barry has chimed in a lot. Nice guy... my new question is regarding my hull. So far i've enjoyed my boat at full throttle at 4900 rpm on the river near AVI. my question is; what can i expect from my hull design? how should it handle? turn? i'd like to take it to the lake (Havasu) but i'm a little nervous. this is my first jet boat ive ever owned and been in. i have zero prior experience. So far i've relied on my common sense and i've been OK. any driving tips? it has a berkley jet with place diverter (manual) and ride plate. can i be confident in turning around to go back the other way? i have also noticed that when the diverter is pointing up ( rooster tail postion) it is harder to steer. normal? can someone explain how i am supposed to be using the diverter? i want to use it to its full potential. when should it be down and when shoud it be up. For those who have purchased a rudder, was it worth it? can i do without? its only about 100 bucks but if its not that noticeable i guess i can do without. thanks guys!....... this site seems to have less egos and more help. i love it here! but those egos can really make me laugh sometimes! ;D

From my little knowledge and talking with Tom Place the other day, all the way up is just for show... It should be all the way down and launch and level to just above the water when under way.
And I wouldn't be afraid to take it pretty much where ever you want, you just have to water the water and weather.

When in reverse, all the way down can sometimes be a little tricky. Depends on the set up. I use to have mine about center for good reverse control.  All the way down is great for pulling up a skier and in general for  getting the boat out of the hole. Underway your nozzle should be up a bit so the spray is about 2-3 feet above the water. This will air the boat out a bit and have less drag. All the way down is good if you get in some rough water and need to smooth out the ride. Remember, nozzle up= bow up, nozzle down= bow down. Havasu during the week would be fine for your boat. Busy weekend....forget it! As far as all the way up being for show.... you bet! Ask Brad and Rivertard. Very impressive :-)
the jet boat never did this to you bob ::)
Can I get next in line behind The Beav

good to know. thanks guys. any opinions on this hull design? i've read people mention a "delta" bottom. what does this mean? is this a "heavy " hull? Did I just buy "the name" or is this a well performing hull? who has owned or own one currently?

no eliminator owners with opinions or thoughts?

I grew up on a '74 Eliminator, "Rich Bitch", 18', bbf, berk, pop owned it from '76-84, never drove it myself. Had that boat at the Parker strip, Havasu to Laughlin, Lake Mead in '83, Silverwood, Perris, Puddlestone, and Lake Shasta ('76?)

In August of 2003, while vacationing at lake Mohave, An Eliminator (bubble deck, '89 or so) owner and his brother asked if I would "hold the flag" while they tried to wakeboard, one brother asked if I knew how to pull a skiier. I said I also owned a squirt boat, and had pulled many double and single skiiers, and tubes/knee boards, but never a wakeboard. I ended up driving that Eliminator for the rest of the afternoon pulling them on the wakeboard. As far as top speed, I don't know, but it hadled ski duties better than my boat.

I've had my 21' Eliminator Daycruiser for 3 years now, and its built like a tank, 4 stringer hull. Had the wind kick up on lake Mead on Memorial day 2011, 7+ foot waves in Greggs basin, that would have sunk my bowrider. It took a beating, but held up very well, I was impressed. Most all of the rigging is all original, and well thought out for its age ('76)

From what I've heard, the bubble decks were all pretty similar, and take well to hp and pump mods. My "bubble deck" bowrider Saguaro, hits just under 60 with sbc power (325 hp) originaly had bbf power, and hit 51mph.

Hope this helps some
Daniel

Whats been done? What do you want out of it? Need to start with baseline #'s, (gps) then add cubic dollars ;D
4900 rpm, 37mph or 73 mph, big difference. Whats your intended use-Drag boat, Circle boat, River cruiser, Ski boat?
I've done havasu for years in an 18' lo-profile boat, gotta be caerful.

I have a 76 eliminator bubble deck. 514 ford with an aggressor jet does 73 mph at about 4800 rpm there is more mph in it but I dont currently have the funds or time to screw with it. Besides I told the wife anything over 70 and I am happy. Fun boat but I dont take it to Havasu or Mojave unless there is no wind. Spend most of my time in Needles or Parker because the river is much easier to deal with the chop. I have a hydraulic diverter and use it quite a lot. I keep it down when launching and slowly move it up when underway until the boat starts to feel more "free". When its all the way up it is hard to steer. Fun boat!!
