Sleekcraft vs Kona
« on: September 02, 2010, 10:57:30 PM »
I have a 74 19' kona that looks identical to a 19' sleekcraft kauai. The seating arrangement and the engine cover are the same. Did one splash the other? Are they the same manufacturer with diffrent names? I cant find any factory pics of the kona.  :banghead:Anyone with any info?

I have a couple brochures here with the Kauai in it. Bowrider would be the source for specifics in comparing yours to his, I'd ask him for some pics to compare yours to his. Might be a couple more on the site, I dunno. I'd love to have a Kauai, but got enough hardware as it is!  ;)

Everyone was splashing everyone back then, buying/selling molds, someone starting their own company, or even using the same molds in many cases.

In the end, if the bottom of yours is like Gil's Kauai,  Build it and run the piss out of it!     Gil's boat is one of the best I've ever seen in the 17'-20' range for cruising and handling chop and rough water. If yours is similar, who cares who splashed who and what brand is on the float?  :screwy:

Over on PB there is a thread showing all kinds of old vintage jetboat ads, in the jetboat section   Even found one for my 76 Nordic was a badass ad

As I recall we always thought that Kona splashed others.  Sleekcraft even though we were always racing against them ( they were the injins we were the cowboys) were straight shooters and built there own molds.
