need info on interior
« on: June 09, 2011, 11:11:20 AM »
ok so my interior isnt that bad.. actually its good, but the white is all dirty and starting to discolor... the reason why i want to do my interior is bacuase i want to add side engine hatches to the boat... its too hard for some people to get in and out of the boat so im adding swim steps and side covers so they can craw next to the motor without gettin burt by the exhausst...

my question is how much money does am all white, with maybe a grey strip, cost?? and how much to make the side engine hatches?? thanks

If you have through transom exhaust....build a big tray/hatch with or without a opening add hinges, gas shocks and a hatch lock.....wrap it up with vinyl.  Do it yourself for around 300 bucks. I went from a dog house to a full hatch.

+1 for trying to build it yourself.  just remember when framing it all out, you're going to need to glass it all, which will add strength.  so you dont need 2x6's to hold up the hatch.

Don't mind Marc.....He not only owns one of the hottest boats on here, but is uncomfortable in his new role as Poontoon boat Skipper!  >:D

He's young, but watch for a thread on "how to remodel a medicine cabinet to hold both enough Viagra AND dramamine" or "how to pay for a houseboat by making it a drop house for 25", OR, my favorite, "If the boat is a rockin', dont bother dockin."  >:D

On a serious note, seen many interiors that cost 5k, many that cost under 1k, and not a lot of difference.  To be honest, check around, use craigslist, friends, check the boat shops. I've seen home made interiors that  rock me, and 5k interiors that were like WTF??? Do your homework and find someone that will do WHAT you want and charge a reasonable price. I have no problem with at 2-3k interior if it's perfect and what I want! Moo's cost me $1200, just for reference.......

Little inside note: I used to work for him and have known the guy for around 10 years! And he is the one who got me into boating in the first place!

They sell a white vinyl spray paint! It will cover almost any stain and look new.

dont cover up that motor... just add more water to the logs so people stop complaining.  or add zoomies and sharpen the edges so they know you mean business and stay away from it.

i dont want to cover the motor but people bitch about gettin in and out of the boat... and the idea i have is not totally covering it.. just the part level with the side rails.. the valve cover on up will be still exposed...

im not sure what im doing yet.. i need ideas.. im putting swim steps for sure.. but not sure about the cover idea

Or find people that don't complain to take to the lake with you.

Got my swim steps used and painted to match....My whole interior ran about 700-800 in material.  I built it and the girlfriend sewed it.  If you just want the sides...how about an aluminum triangle frame from stringer to gunnel.  It would be flush to the top with a piece of 1/2 ply and you could install one gas shock and hinges on each side so they open sideways.  Would also hide anchors, beer cans and tampons.  And I sold the gay ass tower....I use a friends boat to wake.
