Hope I notice a difference
« on: September 25, 2011, 08:47:59 AM »

Realized the Dominator was dominated last weekend. Got motivated and started taking things apart.

Silicone between that bezel and transom was a pain. Plastic shims I stole from work came in handy.

Between this shaft and where its bushing used to be and the gritty bearings, I think I found the problems.

Can't believe I just bought it and already having work done, at least it will be legitimate.

Here she is on McClure's bench. Verdict is a junk shaft and an impeller that's kicked a few bricks around and landscaped a few sandbars. I was happy with the performance of the boat. Planes out quick and goes ok for a stock BBC. That would be nice of the rebuild adds to the driving enjoyment, not just something that had to be done.

Amen to that. I asked him about sharpening up the vanes in the bowl, and he said wouldn't be worth it for the marginal difference I'd get with only around 400 HP.

...still tempted to go to town with my rotary file FWIW , only because its already off.. >:D

while he' out doing his thing, take a file to em and sharpen em up.  everything helps in the long run.

Well.. Picked up a fresh Dominator pump today from Jack McClure himself. I feel confident it is good to go, and he left no question unanswered about install, service or operation.

Let me know a few things I didn't know I should do, like dunking the jet twice at the launch before startup to warsh the dirt and sand that collects in the pump after dragging it through the desert..

I might fab me up a vinyl diaper from excess upholstery fabric to run bunk to bunk to cover the pump intake when trailering, idk, maybe just paranoid or still in shock from paying the money to have it rebuilt right.

However, I'm sure I will notice a difference in how the boat runs with a good, tight pump.

Dunking it twice is real easy and fast, put it in , take it out, put it in and take it out. Easier then messing with a cover. And Ray don't get any ideas with what I just posted >:D >:D >:D
