40 horse ob ?

ok so i need some help i have a fishing boat with a 40 horse merc 2 stroke. i was running it on the hose (with ears) and the water was pissing out like normal (cooling) then i reved it up and it stopped pissing water and acted like it was getting hot. question is why? where is the pump? impeller? t stat? help i want to go fishing.
have a short one.. (about 6") ..but I need one about 6" longer

Weak and herdening impeller, it is very seldom they last more than two years...Buy a new impeller and the gasket package, it should be fine.

The impeller is comressed into an eccentric housing, so probably only half of the blades are doing their job...FWIW we change our impellers every season, cheap insurance IMHO.. :thumbup:

you have to remove the bottom gear case its on the vert shaft
