It's that time again....I can almost hear Dave's balls clanking together from the grave.   Let's have a fast and safe weekend...God willing.

He's probably Layin' low because the Dude who bought the Orange barge is disappointed that a stroked 409 bored out to 532 with oval crower pistons and a stage 2 can (3/4 race cam for the newbs) doesn't really make 800hp and go 90mph....and the new owner doesn't look near as good in the daisy Dukes as Omar told him he would...

Projects / Machine work

Spending twice as much on machine work from a machinist that gets it will save you 10 times as much later.  If you can't afford Bostick or equivalent, buy a used motor to hold you over until you can.   If you decide to go with someone else, get in touch with me or ?? And I'll explain what you need to watch out for, spec, and check for when the job is done.   Most automotive machine shops do shit for work....but they make it shiney and pretty so you don't ask questions

Forget white plastic, sketch up something cool and I'll turn it up for you in aluminum.

Feel the need to chime in...sorry...

Pressure is a function of resistance against a given flow...there are two ways to reduce pressure...increase outflow or decrease inflow.  Pressure is a function of resistance against flow.  Open the valve from the pump and increase  the size of the dump line = better cooling.  It's all about balance.

Your machinist works for you...make sure he understands that.  Do your own research on the build, use the recommendations from the parts manufacturers as far as clearances, tolerances, etc.  make him do it your way, not "the way he always does it"...and check his work.

I usually rent Kyle out for $125/hour...2 hour minimum.  He can fit through tiny holes and knows how to hold a wrench.  All proceeds go to the college fund.

I've lived in pain for ... Shit, can't remember when it didn't feel like I had a dull knife twisting under my shoulder blade...have I thought about suicide...sure...plenty.  The day you have a child, or commit yourself to a spouse, that option goes away.  Now, you have a duty....and anything other than being there for your wife and kids is a dick move.  If you choose that path, don't look for sympathy from me.

I have a nice bell housing/front and rear plates for a BBC I'll sell you cheap.  A flex plate is less than $50, and I'll make you a driveline adapter for a case of beer....I'll even include the bolts.

On the other hand...cranks are ground all the time without re-nitriding.  What machine shop?

Haha. Me too

For those that don't know, this is about the best K Flote race that happened on the last few years, and the driver of the green boat lost his life shortly thereafter.  He still mopped up the field.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: bbc gen iv rear main seal
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:35:06 PM »
If you have a 2 piece seal, don't install it like the picture.  Push on side farther down so the other side sticks up 3/4" or so, this offsets the seal seam and the block seam.  Use black Toyota FIPG sealant on the mating ends of the seal halves and at the specified points on the main cap and shit won't leak

Call a scrap guy on craigslist, tell him to bring a saw.  Drink beer and watch, it's therapeutic

It's fawking hot, Ralph posted a pic of his happy ass towing the boat down to the the stadium... On a weekday no less whilst I was stuck at work,

I'm not happy, it's river time. I have 124 hours of vacation saved up, trailer is going on the spot in 2 weeks, can't fawking wait.  I don't even need the boat , just a beach chair and a 12 pack.

Quick tip:  wrap some Teflon plumbing tape around the rack shaft taper before you install the wheel, and you won't need a puller to remove it next time

Glenn, the thread is in the Trailerpark...need a redstar...Guy's screen name is Beat95YJ.  I've had a few guys send me check and I'm forwarding it via paypal to the original poster.

I'm not one to crosspost or spam, but this seems like a good reason to start.  There's a bunch of us planning on possibly jacking his van while he's at the race, bringing it down to my house/shop and installing the chair dock, and maybe airbrushing some rainbow flames on the sides, then having it back at his house and drinking all his beer when he gets back from the race.  We mean good.   ;D
