Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Crankcase evac set up
« on: November 23, 2016, 03:10:15 PM »
My understanding is that the valve is mainly to prevent the flame from a header backfire from possibly igniting the oil vapors in the valve covers and crankcase, not so much reversion.
The valve you have shown has -8 fittings, while the evac kit appears to have at least-10, although I can't see it called out. It's best to not restrict the line by reducing, so if the valve comes in a size to match the kit, that would be best. Of course the line and fittings down to the valve covers should match that size also.
It would be really clean if the valves came with 1/2 female pipe x -10, then you could eliminate that big AN fitting in the kit.

Yay!!! Ford!!! Thought I saw Bruce's boat in the pic so that is my guess which Ford made the podium.  Ya!!!
Not even close! There were some very well put together boats at the massacre, I was impressed. I know I have a lot of room for improvement with mine, maybe make a better showing next season.

I dont think we can hang out. It would be awkward because you are so young. What grade are you in?

Just like it would be awkward hanging with Jim cuz he is so old.
Damn Wes, does that go for everybody, or just the Chebbie owners? I have a few (many) years on Jim, but I have a Ford.

Well,  Fathers Day and the SW Regatta were the only two events I could make this year, but the kids made reservations at Big River for Fathers Day. Everyone can move up a space and make more room at the bottom for some newcomers since I won't qualify for The List. I will still be staying at Big River and Blythe throughout the summer, and will play if anyone wants to go for fun.

Have you checked to make sure all of your plug wires are on tight and/or that there's no crossfiring?

Would av gas be a problem to run ? My buddy said he thinks it's my be the problem...

That's possible too, really depends on where you got it. I get mine from the airport in Temecula and it works great, but I've used the AV gas from parker Oil in Parker and it ran like shit.

I spun it with the starter yesterday and no oil to the top end.
I'm wondering if the remote filter adapter may have something to do with it as I've heard there's a bypass in that area. The oiling circuit looks like there are 2 problem areas...... filter adapter and rear cam bearing. The odd thing is the oil that came out was run for some time and had a fair amount of discoloration from carbon, so it ran for an extended period. I'm thinking maybe I pull the adapter off and put a stock filter on to test next.
OK, again just my thoughts, but cranking the motor on the starter at say 60 RPM for a short period of time is not the same as even a low idle speed, and may not be adequate to realize the flow of oil through the push rods and rockers.
By all means, investigate what you see as problem areas.

Don't the lifters need to be working (pumping) to get oil up to the heads? I could be wrong but I think using the primer will only fill the galleys and make oil available to the lifters, beyond that the engine needs to be turning.

The rear main? Fix that Bruce and you will be even more badass
Looking at it now, I can't tell if it's the main or the pan gasket. I don't want to pull the crank if I don't have to  so need to figure it out.

I think you need to run that GPS again  ;), or maybe my boat is a lot slower than I thought?
