Eek. Not good. And yes I always use a Plasti gauge even on Locomotive engines and Catalina express engines when I have done them.

My father in law has never had any issues with his 74 Hallett with over the transom headers. Seems like yours may be a little louder then his but there's always a hot rod boat or two out there it seems like. It's a good lake, we have three girls, an 8 year old a three year old and our youngest just turned one today and we always find a beach for base co for the day and have a blast. Most days it gets a little windy in the afternoon but nothing you can't deal with.

I use Tibbets Boat Lettering in Costa Mesa for all the yachts we sell. Jeff is the owner 1 (949) 422-1814. He probably does well over 50% of all boats in the water in Newport. And yes he is fair on pricing.

Most likely the bellows has a hole. Look inside each ring, sounds like your hole is on top of bellows if the leak slows when you raise the drive.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Mechanic in Havasu
« on: May 19, 2014, 10:51:19 PM »

Having an issue with diagnosing backfire through my carb at 3500 rpms and above. This problem all started after I blew my 50 amp breaker and resetting it. Have not been able to locate  the source for the breaker popping. But, after resetting it I now have the backfire issue. Have had a shop trying to figure this issue out for a month now with no success.    Lakewood, huh, Palo verde and Del amo here....

Hey bud I'm off palo verde and del amo as well. We need to hook up and shot the shit one day. I run our service department for all our yacht sales we sale new Sea Rays. I can get ya set up with my shop out there we have a good tech on staff.

Ken sending prayers your way and hope you can keep your head up and work thru all this. I feel your pain as we have been dealing with health issues with my 2 year old and my 8 year old this year. Sometimes the best thing to do is just keep on keepin on and try to do what you normally do. Best of wishes to you and your family bud.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: 50 Amp Breaker issue
« on: April 20, 2014, 08:14:45 AM »
Need I find the specs for the coil, the ignition circuit and the alternator and ohm test them. I would check them all cold and right down your findings then run it for awhile to get it hot stop and test all components again and see if one of them is reading a lot more ohms then cold test. Also check wires from starter to relay or the breaker. This is the kind of issue that drives us all nuts.

Sounds like something in the ignition circuit. Does it pop the breaker as your running? How long after cooling down will it run correctly again. The hotter wires get the harder it is for current to flow so see if any wires are hot, loose or faulty connections. Maybe also have the battery load tested.
