Jet Pumps / Re: New guy, New Boat, Random Jacuzzi questions..(688hp)
« on: August 04, 2019, 06:16:16 PM »
Jacuzzi's have a plastic wear ring.
If the boat has been started out of the water, once, it needs a new wear ring.

The impellers go from A to D.
The A is similar to Berkeley 2A,
Jac. B to a Berkeley  A, and so on.

The rattle could be three things,
The u-joints are worn out,
The spline yoke is worn out,
Or a stainless impeller has been known to rattle.

There is a stainless option in Jacuzzi impellers. Like finding hens teeth.

At over 500 hp, stainless is preferred. At 688 hp should be required.

It is a mixed flow pump, same as a Berkeley.

It already has the better shaft. Loaders would be a custom piece, as well as a ride plate and shoe.

The bowl and impeller could be changed over to a Berkeley set-up, as there are kits available.

Between the kit, and adding a ride plate and shoe to the WJ, a complete Berkeley pump set-up may be the best bang for your buck. All depends on where you want to go with this set-up, how fast, etc.

Tom @ Jet Boat Performance has the wear rings in stock. Also a plethora of information.

Jack @ MPD was the guru of WJ pumps. I don't know if he still works on pumps.

Hurry Round Hondo, a K (KJ) class 'jet boat', had a big blower motor, running a mostly stock WJ pump, was out racing and winning with the K boats. Until it was outlawed. This was in the early 70's.

And lot can be done with the WJ.
I have 2 of them (not for sale) and wouldn't think of replacing them with Berkeley pumps.

Btw, I also have a 74 Glencoe 19' jet. WJ pump. I'd like to see the rest of it.

Dan'l

Thank you. I too am a firm believer in the WJ. Had a ton of work done to mine as well.

They do make a stainless wear ring for the WJ. I remember taking mine apart and having to cut the WR out.

Excellent shape Jacuzzzi WJ impeller. It's aluminum and the cut is a C. Tom at JBP cut it down from a B and cleaned it up. It's just been sitting on the shelf for quite some time.

Comes with WR and WR screws.

You don't see WJ impellers pop up very often. $300 plus the ride from Texas.

Wanna sell the blower / manifold? Need anything for trade + cash?

Heads?
Cranks?
Blocks?
Intakes?
Pistons?
Rods?
Sheet metal?

Dan'l

Sorry for the late reply. It's a 327.

Motor is going together now. But I need odds and ends, head bolts or studs, timing cover, pan studs, water inlets, maybe timing chain or belt drive. All the odds and ends that add up

Ok I though it was an original idea. I'm all about people who come up with good one off ideas. I just didn't think it was fair to tweak someone's design and call it something different. But I guess that's the way things are now a days.

I would Check fuel filters for debris first, do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the carb/fuel line? Looking for that magic 7psi.

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Do not set eddys up for 7 psi, it will blow right past the needle and seat. There good for about 5.5-6.

Stop using the starter fluid asap. It will kill your piston rings.

What's the fuel pressure?

What carb? What motor?

Need some more details. Sounds like a fuel issue, too much, clogged pick ups, etc.

Leaving the key on for extended period of times without the engine running will kill the module.
