Jet Pumps / Re: Jg pump problems
« on: April 05, 2020, 12:16:12 PM »
thanks for the info , so black moly lube any specific brand ? do you recommend a good gear oil, been using Lucas oil brand, as for letting water up to the bearing, when in the pits its only getting water from the pump , in the river it sits for about 15 minutes before I start and run it, are the thrust bearings pretty much the same in dominator pumps the same in berkely pumps? was this a bearing fail on my part, or a cheap bearing ? or it just failed, the pump is
just 3 yrs old from rebuild  any other info would be great ,appreciate the info words of wisdom from you guys ,still waiting for the pump from George , thanks again
Bearings are all the same in berk and Dom , itís the manufacturerís that are different. Nsk , zpl, timkins. Just have to get the better one nsk is what I would use . As for the molly lube , Lucas makes it . U want one with high grafite . Hope u get ur pump back soon . Just make sure that when u get it back get the parts list and see what bearing went into it . Check the bearing and make sure itís been pre greased . If u have any questions pls pm me and I will give u my cell number an we can talk .

I mean you could be on to something here. I am a ford guy who posted the link and brad who runs the site runs a ford in crazy eights.  BUT that cant be it............pretty sure between you and Bob being chevy guys, older than dirt, probably using flip phones and paying all your bills with checks still......it's probably you two with the issue. Lol

Jet Pumps / Re: Jg pump problems
« on: April 01, 2020, 04:28:01 AM »
Well got the news from George at ARS guess the thrust bearing failed , got lucky and the housing is not cracked , he asked me what kind of grease I was using on the thrust bearing  , I use Lucas  oil grease , does it make a difference? I always greased it before  and after I ran the boat always changed the oil too, hope I get the pump back soon   hope all you out there are doing all right the world's kinda crazy this virus shit sucks
Use black moly lube on it . And brake it in a little no hard passes for about 15mins then put a couple of squirts in at idle and the go for it

Like having a tournament ski prop on a hotrod flatty. It works, but isn't ideal.

It's like comparing apples to French poodles.

"The power is in the pump"

In certain drag racing classes, jets routinely line up with V-drives, and it's all up to the driver. No clear advantage.
V-drive guys don't like hearing about that.

On the river, in my experience, a few v-drives had their asses handed to them by a (my) ditch pump.
Likewise, I've seen the transom of more than one v-drive. (My junk only gps'd 72 mph)

The one clear advantage is cubic dollars- how fast can you afford to go?

That's all I got.

Dan'l
Lol loved that comment bro . When I run with some of u jet guys they get me out of the hole and get 100-200 feet on me and then I run them down lol . I will run with most guys unless I know the set up lol but if I see a BIG ASS blower then itís meh itís cool u less they will run a mile straight then I will . My sled loves chop lol more chop the faster she runs

We used this regulator in the place Diverter orange boat . Tied in the inlet off the pump and set a T on the outlet that we to the engine and the other to a pressure gauge . On the outlet dump use a ball valve to help control engine temp . Itís a fine tuning game brother .

Soooooo , first question that should be asked is how much rpm u running wot??? Thatís where u want to start , that will tell u what impeller u are running , 4200-4500 rpm with stock 454 that will tell u that u have a AA or A cut impeller.
Split bowl will give u more options for Diverter stuff . Droop , HPH . Ride plate , insert nozzle . Then u could get an inducer to help pre load the impeller. Next would be a shoe for the intake . And loader . Itís a tuning game with jets . Have to set it up for the hull u are running . Best way is to talk to Tim place and tell him what u want the boat to run and he will point u in the right direction. As for V-Drives . They rule lol .

Thanks guys , got the pump pulled today sending it to George at ARS, he built it before , hoping  the housing is not messed up this would be my 3rd in 4yrs last housing cracked because of a broken piece of metal from a bad assembly line loader scoop , so we'll see ,appreciate  the help , George has always been good to me ,parts fail I understand  plus I'm hard on my equipment  I'm always checking everything  but shit happens if  the new motor fires up and works out I should be ready to rock and roll for the June race

Jet Pumps / Re: Jg pump problems
« on: February 08, 2020, 09:00:41 AM »
Thanks Bro appreciate the words ,yes I was real bummed out ,pulled the droop snoot found gear oil in the bottom of the bowl in the vanes weird, seal? I always left the pump stuff to the pros ,George has always been good with everything,  just getting frustrated  2 motors and a pump in one year my friend pork chop got a Kurtis 500 v drive wondering if it's time for a change?
Oil in the bowl is not a big problem, seal leaked or possible that it came out due to shaft travel . If want the pump done to race spec then contact place Diverter and controls and talk to Tim place . He once had the fastest jet boat in the world and knows how to build pumps . He has a bad ass pump ready to go . I posted here in SoCal Jetboat . Call him and maybe he will give u a deal for it .

The thing is with this question is that it would cost u over 50k to build an squirt boat now . Whatís the point when there is a bunch of cheap boats out there turn key for under 10k . There is a guy in northern Cali that has the mold for my boat and just finished the hull , wants 16k for bare hull . Now add in all the rigging and motor and now ur easy into 30k and thatís if u do all the work . But I know that eliminator has all the old molds sitting somewhere and I know they would build u a boat if u wanted but as I said itís gona cost you .

Sorry to hear that bro , George might be right on the bearing but 1/2 run out on the shaft ???? That allow the impeller to hit the suction housing???? Also that would push the shaft into the driveline and possibly push the crank ??? , better  check the driveline . Best of luck brother
