Just a cam swap is not going to help that much. Call Clay Smith Cams, George Strirgel owner. Been doing Cam for jet boats for over 40 plus years. 714-523-0530

Silicone work really good, donít use the gasket that go on the front and back. Also use silicone around the water ports front and back of the intake manifold. Donít mess with the silicone for 24 hours. Are you using the metal intake manifold? If so get high performance gaskets. Still use the silicone front and back and around the water  passages even spray the gaskets with an  adhesive. Some times if the block has been surfaced the manifold doesnít fit right in the block. Good luck

You have Bassett headers each header pipe has a small hole in it right at the lowest point of the pipe.  Do drain and water on the headers.

The No Wake Zone / Re: 455 olds cuts out
« on: August 04, 2019, 09:50:22 AM »
Hey when Iím running on my driver side tank it cuts out like its starving for fuel but on the passenger tank it dose not do it nearly as much. This is only under hard throttle. The motor has 68 hours on it new edelbrock cark and i just put new filters and fuel pump on it. It seems to be getting fuel could the timing need to be advance a little or ditch the edelbrock 750 and get a Holley marine carb. One thing I havenít done has flush the tank or run it completely out of fuel and start fresh. And the fuel lines are old
If you say your fuel are old, a small crack could be sucking air. I see you change the fuel filter thatís good.  High Hp need 3/8Ē fuel line, not 5/16Ē.

Need help.  This is a 1978 Hawaiian jet boat.  I do not know what the hanging push pull switch is?  There are 4 on the dash.  one is the lights, one is the bilge and one is the blower.  The one hanging has only 2 wires going to it.  One wire goes to ignition switch and the other wire runs to the back into the fuse panel and it is labeled alternator.  Which is has another wire connecting over to the next pin which is labeled battery.  Whether this switch is pushed in or pulled out seems to have no bearing on anything.    I am trying to find parts (the pull knob and hardware to secure it to dash) so I can actually have it in the dash instead of just hanging underneath.  Really just wanting to know what it is for?
Might be a fuel change switch

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Starter got stuck
« on: July 20, 2019, 06:05:06 PM »
Take a pair of pliers and touch the    two big terminals. The motor should turn over. If it doesnít the starter is either stuck on the flywheel or the starter is bad. That  solenoid was used on fords for a long time. There is not another solenoid on the starter.

If the wire at the starter is hold to the starter, is hot when you turn the to start. The starter is bad, or the bendix is stuck in the fly wheel.  Again hit the starter a couple times with a hammer.

Where the cable go to the starter   follow it the solenoid. There should the starter cable to one side of the solenoid and the battery power to the other side. There should be one small wire, that would be the wire to activate the starter. Take a pair of pliers and touch the two big wires, the motor should turn over. If it doesnít turn over you have a starter problem. If does turn over you have a solenoid problem. The little wire activates the solenoid at the key. With a test light ever time you turn the key to start that little wire at the I Solenoid should be hot. That little wire when to turn the start connect the two big wires to give the starter power.

The bending might be stuck, give the starter a couple raps with a hammer.

Call Clay Smith Cam, George Strirgel 714-523-0530. The man knows more about what makes a jet go fast, then anybody. I am willing to bet, the jet boat crowd know that name.

Make sure the distributor is turning, pull cap and turn over. If turning over check the firing order.
