I'm in need of a trailer for about 3 weeks! I have a 21' Bahner and live in the Inland Empire, Murrieta to be exact. I need to do work on both my boat and trailer right now and they need to be in two different places and then trailer goes in for paint. Not looking to spend too much for rent as I am a broke boat owner...😉 Pls let me know what you guys have or may know of. Thanks!!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / HELP, Oil Leaks
« on: May 02, 2014, 08:56:18 PM »
So I'm starting to get in over my head...

I went out to test all the things I've been working on and did not have my engine breathing properly. 😖🔫

I quickly created two oils leaks on the top back of the motor. It's coming from the two corners where the intake manifold seals to the block and corners of the heads. I've gone and bought new manifold gaskets and The Right Stuff for sealant. Before I get too far into this, which I've never done this before, is there a way to fix this without pulling the intake all the way off?

I'm really nervous about gasket material and old sealant falling into my fairly fresh motor.

I'll appreciate any and all input.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / BBC oil pan advice...
« on: January 21, 2014, 07:47:36 PM »
I currently have an 8qt truck pan on my stock 454. I got this pan back in March when I had my motor rebuilt. The mechanic threw it on as a favor because he noticed my motor came with a stock capacity car style pan. The problem is the pan is a bottom drain and the very end of the drain plug head is touching the glass. I ran it for this last season just because it took so much to finally get on the water. Now I'd like to improve it and do a couple other things while motor is out. I don't believe I need a real expensive one but have learned thru this site that there are certain pick ups needed and windage trays, ect.....

I've found a few online and will post pics. I'm finding a lot more 6 and 7qt pans than 8qts. Should I focus on an 8 or is a 7qt good, possibly with using larger capacity filter? Also I've seen MANY different styles of trays inside these pans...?

Any help is much appreciated! Maybe one of you have the perfect used pan I can purchase.?.

Hey guys, just like it says... How do you determine the proper steering cable length?
I have a 21' Bahner. Currently the steering is hard and rack seems a bit worn so I'm going new. The problem is the cable I have now travels back to transom from the wheel, dips down along stringer back towards the front of the boat, then up and over the exhaust snail and finally exits the transom. Seems too long to me if there's a big enough loop to sit on exhaust but this is all new to me. Is it just this way for easier steering or would it feel the same if it were to travel along transom with just a smaller loop behind exit hole? Thanks.

Not the best pic but all I have right now...

Trailers / Replacement steel fenders and steps
« on: November 07, 2013, 02:26:06 PM »
I need some recommendations on where to go in the IE for steel fenders and steps. One of my fiberglass fenders is heavily damaged and from 1982.... If I'm going to fix it I might as well go with good steel and probably switch out to LED's while I'm at it. I talked to Competitive who manufactured the trailer and they seemed a little steep, maybe you guys know another option or two. Thanks!

The No Wake Zone / Wake/spray out of pump when towing at low speed...
« on: June 26, 2013, 01:22:11 PM »
Well I finally got everything I needed, including boat running right, to pull my kid around behind the boat. On Sunday we started with knee boarding, he got it first try!! Anyhow, I noticed it very hard to get up on plane and while towing him if I tried speeding up to plane out I would spray him quite a bit...😖  I have a 21' closed bow Bahner w/ stock 454, panther housing w/ American Turbine Energizer Kit. Is this how it goes in this style boat and can I add something for improvement?? I've heard of wedges, diverters and pre-loaders but don't really know what does what... I'll include some pics. Thanks!
... The last pic isn't at towing speed obviously but it's an idea of how much spray I have at about 4200 rpm. I'm at about 3000rpm, not planed out and giving him a face full when I go any faster. Oh, it was a 75' rope I used with one length removed... Is that the problem too?

The No Wake Zone / Don't let a friend park your sh#t!
« on: June 23, 2013, 10:36:00 AM »
This happened at the lake yesterday.... After getting sooo many issues with the boat worked out this happens to my trailer! 😖  At least my friend was smart enough not to tell me until we were leaving so he didn't ruin my day.

SoCal Lakes / Last minute trip to Elsinore today!
« on: June 09, 2013, 08:39:28 PM »
Another one of those, "I'm almost done hooking everything up, go pack a cooler" trips today. It was nice to have family out again! Ran into some cool people we met before and had a nice afternoon. Even took a couple for a hot lap that we met at the Crane's beach and they said it was the highlight of their weekend... I liked the sound of that!! Here's a couple pics including one of my son Noah and I....

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Installing 1-wire alternator...
« on: June 08, 2013, 09:53:26 AM »
Hey there, I'm installing an alternator on my float today... Didn't come with one. I have a single wire 105 amp marine atl. It doesn't come with any paperwork really so I need to know if wiring it to the constant hot on my battery selector switch is correct because I have dual battery system? Also, does this atl. need to be grounded or is it done internally already? Thanks!

Ah, one more thing... Is 12 gauge wire good enough from atl bat. post to switch?

Need used low style alternator mounting bracket for 454. Preferably aluminum or black finish. I'm in the Riverside County. Thanks.

Thanks for all the info you guys post it really helps a rookie like me! Here's a few pics to introduce what my old lady calls the "Attention Whore"! Lol
