Anyone know when it's happening this year? The ol' Tahiti is getting jealous of desert season and thinking this would make for a good day to take it out.

Boats For Sale / 1974 Tahiti - 18' Hatchback Tiger
« on: August 09, 2013, 08:41:20 AM »
Cool little boat, just got done going through the entire thing. New plumbing, wiring, cables, alternator, starter, distributor, rebuilt jet with roughly 4 hours on it. Boat is 100% turn key, have had it out every weekend since completing it and haven't had any issues. 20 gallon bow tank, 455 olds runs strong and fires right up. Good for an honest 55mph on GPS. Trailer has new bearings, seals, wheels and tires as of this year. Not a beautiful show boat, but looks good for it's age and is reliable.

Not in a hurry to sell it because it's a solid ride, but would like to move into something bigger.

Looking for $4,000. Have titles in hand for boat/trailer. Includes annual lake pass for Elsinore.

Random Boat Parts For Sale / 2 Fiberglass Bucket Seats
« on: July 29, 2013, 08:12:19 PM »
Bought these off craigslist a while back thinking I'd use them for my boat, but went another route and no longer need them. I paid $100 for the pair, and looking to get the same back out of them. They are in good shape and are in good shape. One has a square cut into the bottom but does not seem to effect the integrity.

Located in Murrieta.

Jet Pumps / Is this jet savable?
« on: July 09, 2013, 08:22:31 AM »
Hahaha, just kidding.

On the way back from the cove at Elsinore on Sunday, heard a loud clank noise, followed by the most intense growling/whining you'd ever hear from something that's not supposed to make that kind of noise. Had no choice other then limp her back to the trailer. Engine was down on power, and was starting to get warm the time we hit the buoy line. Tore it apart last night and find a nice surprise.

My guess is whoever tore the pump apart last didn't tighten the thrust bearing retainer bolts, eventually backing out the 3 and snapping the last, allowing the whole shaft to lunge forward and basically eat itself at a high rate of speed. All this happened in the 3/4 of a lap it took to get back to the trailer, and sucks because the impeller was in great shape and boat scooted along pretty good.

Best part is now it's a race to get the boat ready for our week vacation in Laughlin next week  :screwy:

This is what fell out once the motor was removed. That's normal, right?  :banghead:

1974 Tahiti 455 Olds Weekday Testing Part 2

Projects / 1974 Tahiti - First boat project
« on: May 05, 2013, 08:40:07 PM »
First post on SCJB, been lurking for a while and finally have enough progress to start a thread.

Little bit of back story, grew up in Elsinore and have always been on the water there. Countless summers skiing, boating, hanging out at the cove, camping on the beach and drinking those refreshing ice cold beers. My step dad has a 75 Tahiti and for as long as I can remember, we'd be out there tearing it up having a blast. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, my parents were over at their neighbors house and my step dad noticed a boat sitting in the back yard. Checked it out and it's the EXACT same boat that he has. Kind of a rare Tahiti from the sounds of it. It was sitting outside for about 8 years since the last time it was used and was the condition was hurting on it. Knowing that I've been wanting a boat for years, asked if he wanted to sell it and he wasn't interested in selling, but would rather trade for a XR50 that I had sitting around. DEAL! Had a boat fund going, so having money ready to dump into it has made it a fun project. Really bitchin' to have the same boat that I grew up in as my first boat.

As it sat in the guys backyard

Day it made it across the street to it's new home

Has a fresh Olds in it, was rebuilt not very long before it sat. Took the valve covers off and while replacing the fuel pump could see the timing chain, looks almost BRAND NEW inside. No water or condensation. Oil was nice and clean.

Time to start the "restoration"

Had to shim up the deck to get the gas tank out.

Things always look better when cleaned and shinny
