Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / I need help badly!
« on: November 18, 2018, 05:25:55 PM »
Is there anyone within this forum know some one of caliber, in Illinois, that can custom paint a boat? No one I've talked to, is either willing, capable, or of quality, seems to be able to do it. This fucking state is devoid of capability in this arena.
I've got a 73 Southwind SJ18 I need a custom paint done on. It needs to be painted/airbrushed like a great white shark.
The only people who'll even look at me quoted $9,000. Are you f.....g kidding me.
HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPP. PPPPLLLLEEEAAASSSEEEE!!!!!!!

Projects / Just got this home...73 Southwind
« on: March 12, 2018, 06:09:43 AM »
Stringers and floor all replaced, 5hrs on rebuilt motor, trailer reconditioned and new lights.

Not too shabby. I guess Leviathans mill is going in this until I get that hull finished. Wife said I better get life insurance.

Not bad for $4500 I think.

BBO @ 458 cid, billet mains, studded, 5 cap halo, Eagle H-beam rods, Diamond 11.93:1 flat tops, gear to gear timing, roller hydraulic, 307/.603, Procomp heads with Farrea SS valves 2.07I/1.71E, Victor intake, 1050 Dominator. Mallory CD ignited.  My water jacketed headers are currently in build. Hi Tech Exhaust out of Australia anticipates 3 weeks or so on completion and shipment.

Jet Pumps / The Under-abundance of Intelligence
« on: December 08, 2014, 07:04:48 PM »
Started on the pump intake grate replacement, expecting some level of intelligence above breathing & eating.  But Nay! Sayeth the moron who's favorite line was,"..yup, done it ma-sef".....from who'm I purchased my vessel.

I removed his "modified" rock grate in order to install my SS loader into the intake.  This is what I took out and am installing.

Interior / Recommendation on gauges please.....
« on: April 12, 2014, 11:13:50 AM »
Gentlemen,

I am at a difficult juncture in my build and request your input.  The gauge set I like for my build (Autometer Phantom II) are not marinized per Autometer, yet the Autometer marine ProComp are available and the only ones they offer.  Livorsi has a comparable set of gauges, but look too much like the ProCOmp.

My question to all is this,  how many of you are using dedicated marine gauges vs. street gauges (non-marine) and for those of you who do not use marine gauges, have you suffered any failures with your system (gauge pack)?  If I'm spending all this dough, approx. to date $17K in parts and such, should I make it look good and the way I want it, or keep the system mainstreeam? :banghead:

Thanks,

Chris

Folks, I am taking my JE housing down to get it blasted clean, then coated/painted.  What I'd like to inquire is, what do you recommend painting/coating it with?  Brand, # of coats, type of primer, etc, etc.  What do you think or recommend on this?

Folks,

The build up on my BBO is finally coming to fruition.  Diamond custom 11.88:1 slugs, Eagle H-beam 6.735 rods, fully worked pro-comp heads, Edelbrock Victor w/ 1050 DOminator up top, and the list goes on and on.  I'm still in the midst of milling and slathering in the new stringers for this boat ('75 Glastron CV21).

My question or rather poll is, where would you place your oil temp sensor on this critter?  In the oil pan (10qt) w/ a welded in bung?  Up by the oil pressure sensor on a "T" with the pressure sensor, or tapped into the returning from the cooler (cooled) oil line feeding into the engines pressure circuit, as this is what the engine is acutally using?  I'm kinda leaninng toward the oil cooler line circuit.........what do you folks think?

The No Wake Zone / New to this forum and here's my project.....
« on: November 13, 2013, 11:13:04 AM »
Hey folks, my name is Chris and so's my wife's, hence the handle. :screwy:  I've got a '75 Glastron CV21 w/ Berk 12JE and 455.  Here's how the build is going thus far.  Hull needs stripped and painting- the dimwit I bought this form in MI "did it his-self", that'll have to wait till later.  The pump I'm freshening up with a 17-4 shaft & inducer w/ a new aluminum "A" impeller plus all the normal stuff-i.e.- bearing, bushings, wear ring, gaskets etc.  It has a hydraulic place diverter with the switch moved up onto the wheel-gotta keep my hands where they're needed. Plus a hot foot on the floor.

The motor was a three point mount but I am chaning that to a four point mount w/ Hardin front and rear mountings.  The block that was in there was all goofed up by captain bung-hole so that sits in the corner.  The block I sent to the machine shop and am awaiting its return is a '71 455 w/ a .010" overbore.  New Diamond custom forged 11.35:1 slugs w/ Eagle 6.735" H-beam rods.  The crank is pristine and will be milled to allot for the increased clearances I am running on the rods and mains.  The mains got new Dick Miller billet steel main caps on 1-4 along with a 5 cap halo, all studded of course.  The block was milled to accomodate these and align honed, decked to clean up the surface and set the RA for cometic MLS gaskets, torque plate bored and honed.  The heads are ProComp aluminum w/ Farrea 2.07" intakes and 1.71" exhausts w/ Comp cams double springs (288lb open seat press.) Harland Sharp 1.6:1 rollers w/ guide plates, Hydraulic-Roller lifters and I haven't picked a cam yet.  Probably in the 305 duration .595" lift on a 112-114 LSA arena, and a gear drive up front.  Edelbrock Victor intake with a 1050 Dominator up top.  Once I have it in and the driveline angles set, I'll get the measurements off to Bassett for a set of thru transom 4" headers.  Mallory Hyfire to light it.  Next winter I'm installing Autometer Phantom II gauges.

I'm in the midst of replacing the stringers right now and have the all the old stuff torn out and am in need of advice in this arena.  What would should I use to replace the stringers- Red Oak, pressure treat pine, poplar, spruce, and no I cannot afford teak wood.  Also, what epoxy would you recommend to bond them in?

Here are some pics of the purple people eater ( I hate the color) and the proposed set up.
Some help here would be appreciated  :banghead:
