No it hasn't worked since i bought the boat. I had the motor apart last year and it looks like its all stock 454 chevy.  All the other gauges are working fine. Is it that big a deal to run with no oil gauge.  At least my water temp is good.

Ok, so i was finally able to test the wire like you said. Disconnected the sender from the gauge and ran a new length of wire straight from the sender to the gauge. As soon as i touch the wire to the sender it still pegs to 80. :banghead: :mad: what the hell esle could it be. Bad gauge? A friend of mine said it the gauge and sender have to be compatible? Any more idea from anyone?

If its a short between the gauge and sender what exactly does that mean? A broken wire? I hate electrical  :banghead:

My oil pressure gauge has been pegged at 80 psi. I put a new oil sender in and its still pegged at 80. When i disconnect the wire from the sender it drops to 0, but as soon as i reconnect or ground the wire it pegs out. What else should i look for?

Ok cool. Thanks for the help. What about a thermostat? Should i use one? Right now i just have a valve from the pump to control water flow.

Really thats all!!!! I was thinking the worst. I need to get my temp gauge working. I dont think its reading right. It never seems to get over about 110 120

Just started the boat the other day, then took off the valve covers to check things out. Noticed small amount of milky oil in the heads but none in the oil when i pulled the dipstick. Why would there be oil in the heads but not in the oil pan? Its a stock big block chevy and im just running logs and snails.Thanks for any help.

Was just curious if anyone knows of something other than the black accordion type seals for the control cables through the transom. Seems like I have to replace mine every season because they get hard and Crack in the seams and start leaking water through them. Any picks or info on what you've done would be great. Thanks

Thanks for more information but like I was saying I don't have much engine building skills and I can't afford taking it to a shop to do the work so looks like I'll just keep it stock for awhile.
What if I was to take out the big heavy 454 and put a small block in it with the same horse power?  Would I get the same mph with less fuel consumption?

That's kind of the info I was looking for. I'm a novice at best with engines so compression ratios and cams and all the technical stuff is way over my head. I'll just stick with what I have like you said. Thanks again for the responses.

Thanks for the responses. I definitely don't plan on it being a race boat by any means. It's a mini day cruiser I plan on a nice little family boat. I just pulled the engine for an oil change and thought I'd research things. My dad has a 91 ultra 21'  with a mercury 350, but it's an i/o and his boat is just about as fast as mine with a 454 big block. With the info I found on my engine Everyone seems to say the heads are only good for towing application. I don't understand why his smaller engine in a bigger boat could keep up with mine, a bigger engine in a smaller boat.

Hi,
I'm new to socal jet boats and fairly new to jet boating. I have a big block chevy casting # 10114182 and head casting # 10114156. According to info I have found the heads are "peanut port heads." There's a lot of conflicting info on whether these are good heads for boats. Just wanted to know of anyone that could give me some insight. Thanks.
