Boat Racing / Re: Jet boat race - early 1973 at Long Beach Marine Stadium
« on: January 25, 2017, 08:22:14 PM »
This thread is 2 years old, but I had to comment because Steve King is my dad! Super cool to see this, I'll have to show him.
Welcome to the board, I'll show your reply to Uncle Tom! In fact tomorrow is his birthday he should get a kick out of it.
Like I said I've known Tom King for years and always heard stories and his nephew that raced Jet Boats.

That Hondo is so cool! Here's my old one that my son now owns. A little south of Big River.

Thanks Guys, Big River- Lost Lake not to far, you make the run down to Shell Beach with the BR crowd?
We usually are on the pontoon about a 1/2 mi. up river from the crowd, Hondo makes it in the water after the crowds leave.

RR474, I would double check on your choice of awnings, the powers that be made us all take down our shade cloth awnings :banghead: There are a couple of options for metal awning, and a guy in camp that does them.

Wow. That seems like an awesome way to rip a hole in the bottom of the boat if you ever hit something in low water.

They are pretty tough, I've bent mine twice, but those hull bottoms are layed up heavy,

Hey Jack, just got around to watching this one, a little before I caught the bug, but one name Marion Davy, he was my auto shop teacher. My Mother always said if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

Lower River / Re: Waterwheel or Aha Quin?
« on: March 16, 2015, 11:37:32 AM »
I THINK the Lagoon used to wrap all the way around to the Upper Sandbar and was useable by a jet boat. I haven't seen that in my 9 years, but I've been told that by other guys. Nice boat. CS 19 says it's a real peach. I don't rmember seeing it at LL but maybe this summer. My first ride in a small boat was in a Hondo Flatbottom with a SBC at Lake Isabella vs. a Cole Flat with a BBC. We got beat by a bunch, but a month later I had a Jet Boat. That was long, long ago   :).

Maybe see you over the summer.  Space P-1 on the Point next to the deep water launch.

We've been at LL for 24 years now, don't ever remember being able to go to the sandbar through the old river channel, been playing on this part of the River since the 70's, yeah I know, the Hondo is always there just don't get it wet as much as I use to. Thank You and Chris for the compliment. We are in sp# 611 come by for a cold one.

Jack, Tom has been telling me stories for years about his Nephew and his business partner Milett and their boat racing, those races in the early 70's Steve started racing he was 17, and heard he was tough to beat.

Hulls / Re: ???? on a hondo drag hull
« on: January 18, 2014, 11:45:11 AM »
It all depends on what you want in a boat.  If you're looking for a race boat, there are many other hulls that would require a lot less "work" to make fast.
If you're looking for a family hot rod, there are many other hulls that will give a better ride and a lot more room for passengers and gear.
If you're looking for an impractical, harsh riding project boat you might have found it.

From what I can see in the pictures... even if you can do all the work yourself, you'll have more money in it than it would cost you to find a more complete running boat.

That's my opinion and I own one!

Your HONDO MAN card has been revoked by executive order
