Interior / Re: making my wood for my seats
« on: May 13, 2010, 06:12:15 PM »
on mine to make life easier i got 2 pieces of 1/4" and laminated them together. then i fiberglassed the seam. i put a ton of waterproof wood glue and spread it on with a small roller.

That's a nice looking seat!  I guess I'll try that too.  Did you wet or soak the wood for the bend?

Well, it's about time we had another tea party and here's the link to the information.  http://www.sacteaparty.com August 28, 2009 Sac Tea Party  This isn't just about Northern California.  This out of control government is killing California.

Now for those liberal, tree huggers out there, this would be a good time for you to go visit Hugo Chavez.  I'm sure he could use the company.

Don't forget to feather back the edges about an inch or so where you can before glassing.  It's really not so bad.  You may even be able to save the existing wood.  Looks like you may need to jack up under the crack to bring the 2 pieces together and then glass and clamp.  Glass the back side as well.  Oh yeah, what he said - don't forget the dog.  :D

SOunds like you may have a few chores for the winter.  If the pump is still hanging on, you might get by and then have a hobby to play with after the season is over.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Diodes
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:17:49 PM »
Thanks GT.  I'll keep watching.  I'll be firing up my small CNC machine to make the switch housings and a small circuit board in each switch housing to hold the diodes.   Any idea what diodes I would need?

Can someone tell me what diodes are used in the place diverter steering mounted switch?  And how they are connected up?  I'm working on a new steering wheel switching system and need to know this info so I can build in a circuit board with these parts.  Thanks in advance.

So what is the mat stronger than cloth?I kind get how to do it!! :-\  So you want me to taper the back side of the dash?

Mat is the stronger of the 2 and the cloth is for finish.  No, you taper the edges back on the face of the dash and then build out from the center until you are a little above the dash face level and then sand to match.

I'll stand by my comments.  Bondo with shrink, will absorb moisture and doesn't have any structural strength.  It's a great product for cars and that is limited.  Go with Kitty Hair and micro spheres.  Then if you want to you can smooth all that out and give it a layer of glass fabric and finishing resin.  If you want it right, do it right and you won't be sorry.  Bondo will crack out.

You don't need to cut out the glass, just the bad wood behind the dash and then replace with new.  You can taper back the edges of the cracked glass and when you get ready to place the new wood, coat it with resin and add a layer of mat, wet it out good and then put in place and clamp (lots of clamps) tightly.  Once that has set up, go ahead and give the rest of the new wood a coat of resin and maybe a layer of glass cloth.  Then on the cracked glass on the dash, just start filling in with mat until it is level or above and block sand it back down to smooth.  Just my 2 cents and the way I would do it.  It's going to be a job but you'll be happier in the long run.

Holy Crack Batman.   :o  Looks like you may need to pull the old wood out and replace with new and then fix the crack in the glass.  Then coat the new wood with a layer of glass cloth and resin.

You don't want to use bondo.  It will shrink and draw moisture.  And then create bigger problems.  The glass you are talking about that has strands in it sounds more like a product called Kitty Hair by some mfgs.  It is very good stuff for filling small areas.

I'm glad you decided to boat close to home.  Now you can go just about any time you feel like it.  Just wash down and flush out and you're good to go.  I wish I were so lucky!  ;)
