Lake Havasu / Re: Best part of Havasu for jets?
« on: August 07, 2013, 04:07:22 PM »
Last trip out to Laughlin we went from there to Havasu. Once we touched the lake we felt like a very small fish in a giant pond with all the big boats racing by, giant wakes and knowing that it can get extremely rough out there.

If I were to launch out of Havasu, I'd B-line it as close to the shore as possible and get back into the river where the water stays a bit smoother. We had the most fun inbetween the sandbar, through Topock and into Needles.

Usually out there around 10 or 11. Get kind of spoiled/lazy having the lake 10 minutes away from house to buddies house on the water.

Is the oil pressure gauge working? Does the oil filter gasket have enough surface area to properly seal?

I'd think it would take a wild amount of oil pressure to blow a oil filter gasket out.

Who rebuilt it and what was done? Did they simply slap it together with new gaskets or was it tested/tuned before you got it back?

Sounds like a float level/needle valve issue.

Maybe I missed it, but did you have this problem prior to having the carb "re-done" or was it re-done because of these symptoms?

Elsinore is a good time, don't let the green scare you away. Agree with above, if you want the smooth water you want to get out early or stay out late. All the time inbetween is spent at the cove. Good times and makes you feel like your somewhere other then Elsinore. There almost every weekend. See ya out there

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Fuel tank question ?
« on: July 31, 2013, 07:44:22 AM »
Have a 20 gallon belly tank in the Tahiti and went from Laughlin to Pirates on 9 gallons. Then from Pirates to the river delta at Havasu and back to the Avi before she began to sputter. That was mostly cruising around 3k with some WFO passes every now and then.

Bought these off craigslist a while back thinking I'd use them for my boat, but went another route and no longer need them. I paid $100 for the pair, and looking to get the same back out of them. They are in good shape and are in good shape. One has a square cut into the bottom but does not seem to effect the integrity.

Located in Murrieta.

Time for an update.

She got a new jet and finally dialed in the upholstery. Just spent 5 days out at Laughlin/Mohave and had zero issues. Went from Big Bend to Havasu on Friday, which was over 100 miles round trip. Then spent Thursday and Saturday on Mohave. Can't wait to go back, but Elsinore will have to do in the mean time.

Martinez did a killer job on matching the front seats I had.

We'll be out there the 17th to the 21st. Staying at the Ramada. First time on the water at Laughlin, so it should be interesting!

Stop by if you see the boat!

Jet Pumps / Re: Is this jet savable?
« on: July 09, 2013, 10:13:49 AM »
The impeller bottomed out against the suction housing before the driveline ran out of room on the slip yoke, but in other cases, yes, it would spell disaster for crankshaft bearings and endplay.

Jet Pumps / Is this jet savable?
« on: July 09, 2013, 08:22:31 AM »
Hahaha, just kidding.

On the way back from the cove at Elsinore on Sunday, heard a loud clank noise, followed by the most intense growling/whining you'd ever hear from something that's not supposed to make that kind of noise. Had no choice other then limp her back to the trailer. Engine was down on power, and was starting to get warm the time we hit the buoy line. Tore it apart last night and find a nice surprise.

My guess is whoever tore the pump apart last didn't tighten the thrust bearing retainer bolts, eventually backing out the 3 and snapping the last, allowing the whole shaft to lunge forward and basically eat itself at a high rate of speed. All this happened in the 3/4 of a lap it took to get back to the trailer, and sucks because the impeller was in great shape and boat scooted along pretty good.

Best part is now it's a race to get the boat ready for our week vacation in Laughlin next week  :screwy:

This is what fell out once the motor was removed. That's normal, right?  :banghead:

The No Wake Zone / Re: Where's everyone going for the 4th?!
« on: July 08, 2013, 10:53:49 AM »
Went to Elsinore TO watch the fireworks on the 4th. Was rad to float on the water to have the best seats around. Will say, coming home was scary though with 15-20 boats racing back to the ramp in pure darkness  :screwy:. Also went out and played on Saturday and Sunday.

Had an almost identical problem last week on my pops boat, but it was coming up the primary vent tube. Found a bad o-ring/poor seal on the float needle valve. Replaced the o-ring even though it looked ok and took care of the problem.

Has to be something simple and overlooked if it worked fine before tearing it apart...
