Boats For Sale / 1977 General Marine Ranger
« on: November 18, 2006, 09:37:54 AM »
This isnt my boat. I am just posting it for someone....Please call the number listed below for any questions.

Its a 1977 jet boat made by general marine, the ranger series the only thing wrong with it is the jet drive needs to be rebuilt as per the mechanic i took it to, the jet drive is made be jacuzzi and all parts are available. I just dont have the time or the money to fix it so I have to let it go. The registration is current and the the paper work is clean Im just awaiting the bank to send it to me. If interested my name is Dave and my number is 619-277-2563. I am selling it for 1800.00 as it sits, trailer included.

I assume its pretty simple and can be done with a trip to the DMV.

also, as long as all his paper work is straight....is his registration current on both trailer and boat? does he have the titles? are they in his name? are they clean?

I'm sure you will have to pay for new tags in CA, but it should be too expensive.

I can bet you will spend more money and time just getting the boat home, then it will to get the paper work in your name.

so in other words....go for it!

Well, we picked up a new engine stand this weekend (Thanks John!) and successfully got the motor out this time. I need to get some longer bolts so I can mount it on the engine stand, so I set it down on some 2X4's for now.

The gas tanks look like they are 1/2 plastic...1/2 fiberglass.....we were only able to take out the driver side one because the other still has gas in it. The removal process was nothing easy at all. We managed to damage the tank severely and noticed that the filler neck was broken as well.

So we need new gas tanks....preferably aluminum. Anyone have any suggestions where we can pick some up or have some made? I would like them to be the same shape, so no cylindrical ones.

Also, as we near the process of prep work for paint/gel, I need to find someone who can do gel coat in the orange county or riverside/corona area. I am looking for a deal because this is a tight budget project. Maybe we can work something out.  ;) :cough: free advertising :cough:  ;)

Anyways, here are some pictures of this week?s progress....

The No Wake Zone / New Member Map Feature
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:55:39 AM »
I was bored today at work so I set this up....

put a member map on here so people can map out where they are located...

Put your pin in your profile here: http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?action=profile;sa=forumProfile
Just scroll down to the bottom and zoom into your general area and click on the map. It will set a pin. You dont have to put the din directly where you live, but at least in the general area.

Check out the map here: http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?action=googlemap

It's all google map based.

What are you waiting for? Get Mapping!

Did you ever find the gas caps for it?

Well, last night was the first night we got to start working on the boat and I think we made some good progress under the circumstances.

Heres some pictures of where we started....

So the first plan of action was to disconnect and remove the motor....then we hit our first road block.....the engine hoist completely failed us and buckled.....luckly it did it just as the motor came off the motor mounts and not while it was lifted up 3 feet to clear the stern.

so we lifted the motor and put it back on the mounts and moved onto removing the pump.....the first goal of the project is to replace the wood on the rear transom.....as you can tell from the pictures....it was pretty rotted.....as i scooped it out, some of it looked like planting soil/mulch  :o

Heres a few pictures of the pump coming out....

looks like a beaver was chewing on the impeller...

Heres the transom before we started hacking away at it...

...and let the hacking begin...

In those last 2 pictures you can see where the fiberglass coating of the wood still stands and its VERY strong I might add...

Heres some more random pictures of the pump on the ground....

Do you plain on fixing just the damage  area on the gel coat or just re gel coating the whole boat. I would like to know more on how you plain on fixing it because I heard repairing gel coat with metal flake underneath is difficult and my boat has the same problems as yours.

well, we would like to redo the gelcoat on the entire boat, but it all comes down to money. If anything, we will just redo the bow and stern which are the worst parts.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Car ran into back of boat...
« on: November 10, 2006, 10:28:31 AM »
Alright...Might as well get this section started.

I parked my boat on the side of the street and unfortunately...some fool ran into the back of it.  It didn't do much damage but did take some of the paint and fiberglass off.

My question...  is there a way to fix myself (just patch it up) rather than take it to a shop and have my wallet drained?

I will post a pick of the small damage soon

Post up some pictures when you get a chance....

Fiberglass repairs can be easily done if you have the place to do it and the patience. Take your time and do it right the first time. :)
