Boat Racing / Getting the S/E 177 ready for Phoenix
« on: April 01, 2014, 06:29:14 PM »
Been getting the 177 ready for the phoenix race next weekend. Thought i would share some of the upgrades.

The first thing we changed was the shifter. Its now on air. It goes up and down by a toggle switch on the steering wheel.

I made a block off plate for the old hole that the shifter used.

The second thing we added was a 2 stage timer from B1 Racing. It's activated by a WOT switch, then it controls the nitrous and the up on the diverter. They can be tuned to thousands of a second.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Dry sump Vs Wet Sump
« on: December 20, 2013, 02:05:58 PM »
Well As some of you know, I've got a new mill in the works. My dad and i have teamed up to go after the 10 second and 9 second class in our new race boat next year.  But this year the new mill will go in the SWTD. The new motor is going to be 540 + ci 14.5 to 1  callies crank Cp pistons, carrillo rods, spraying up to 300shot of nitrous , and Single dominator

I've been kicking the idea around to go to a dry sump deal on the new motor. Other than the cost "witch i know is A LOT" What are the pro's and cons here.

Boat Racing / So You Want To Go Drag Boat Racing?
« on: November 19, 2013, 01:10:38 PM »
A few people have been asking me about racing and the Tech requirements. Well i am going to try an explain all of it here for every one!
I have not included V-Drive Tech on here. That Can be found on

First of all, you have to belong to an association like; ADBA, CDBA LODBRS, SLDBA,KDBA. It normally runs 200$ for the year
If you belong to any one of these you are good to go for racing with any of the listed associations. You'll get a membership card: Make sure you bring this to the races.
You may buy a one time membership for one race. Normally runs 75-110$ depending on the sanction

NJBA is its own race association, having a membership with NJBA will not allow you to race any Lucas Oil races unless you buy another membership with a LODBRS sanction.

What class do you want to run?
Most races will have a test and tune session for 100$ bucks. or 20 a pass in some sanctions
R/R- River Racer - is a dile in class from 12.00 and slower( This is a Great class to get your feet wet.)
S/E- Stock Eliminator 11.00s
M/E- Modified Eliminator 10.00s
--------------------------------------- Anything faster than 10.00 requires a competition drivers licence. ( You will have to get a FFA type 3 Physical for this licence)

T/E Top Eliminator 9.00s
P/E Pro Eliminator 8.00s
Q/E Quick Eliminator 6.00s 1000FT

The Price of the race is different for each sanction. Its 150+ the parker deal with ADAB is 300$ well worth the $$$$$$

What YOU Need.
*All open boats and PWC’s running 11.99 seconds and quicker will be required to wear ballistic shorts.*

Jet boats may use a 360 or 180 degree cover, a loop as described in the following section, or a device that will deter the driveline from exiting the boat in case of failure. No cover is required if the drive line is covered by the hull or transom.

Jet boats utilizing a drive shaft with one or two U-joints may use a drive line loop instead of a drive line cover.

For shafts longer than fourteen (14) inches, two (2) loops must be used. All loops must be mounted securely through the stringers to support the shaft in the event of a U-joint failure.

*Throttle Return Spring*

All boats utilizing carburetors or fuel injectors must have one quick action return spring attached to that part of the throttle plate lever which is connected to the butterfly shaft arm per carburetor. Two quick action springs are required on single carburetor/injector systems. All boats using the “bug catcher” type injector hats must have a spring on both sides of the hat. Throttle spring ends must be looped, and attach between a solid point and the throttle plate lever, avoiding the cable attach point.

*Throttle Stop*

All boats which are equipped with a foot operated accelerator pedal must incorporate a functional mechanical stop in the pedal mechanism which will limit the forward motion of the pedal. The stop must be positioned so as to prevent the throttle linkage from passing over center and thus sticking or locking in a full open throttle position.

Projects / 1975 DiMarco Circle Boat Project "SoCalJetBoats Exclusive"
« on: November 09, 2013, 05:30:28 PM »
Alright guys, as promised. Here is my new project. I will only be posting updated here on SoCalJetBoats because well........ I am tired of the other sites, and all the bull crap.

After the demise of my first boat. Southwind 18. I got an amazing check back from my insurance company and immediately started looking for a replacement boat. "thanks state farm"

I Found an add on craigslist up in santa barbara listed as "jet boat"
I talked to an older guy. After talking to him all i can say is "GOLD".

1975 DiMarco Circle boat Weighed at 400lbs weight it when i got home with the intake tanks and calgo and gauges 423 lbs.
It has 2X4 oak stingers and 1/4 inch round oak in the strakes.
it came with

*bitchen stainless russle tanks
*Calgo steering
* Split bowl berkley jet with a stainless b- impeller
*Shoe and ride plate set up
* Set of BBC Bassett headers "that are on my SWTD"
*seats that are ready to fall apart
* An awesome competition trailer with WHITE WALL TIRES!!

The guy cut me an awesome deal! 1400$ for everything.

the only bad thing is that there are stress cracks all over the deck and drivers side.
What ever. It doesn't bother me too much.

The Power Plant will be the Ford 460 out of the southwind 18

First thing i did is pulled the jet and it went to B1 for new bearings and wear ring, new 2* back cut shoe and loader is on its way.

Most likely will set the pump back. Just dont know how far yet.

Next thing was to put new rails in the boat. We went with a full rail deal this time. Got motor plates from tom at Jet boat performance. I used countersunk stringer washers and countersunk allen bolts for hardware.

thats as far as ive gotten.  More to follow.

Were a week away from the First annual Southwind regatta. Super excited to see everybody!

I've got Multiple P.Ms about gas, launch, where the sandbar is ect... So ill throw this out there in a new thread.

We should have over 100 boats coming out. Yes the river rockets deal is the same day at Pirates cove.
the event is on the 21st

There are Hotels in town( google hotels in blythe)
Here are a few
Roadway Inn 760-922-3334
Quality Inn 760-921-2300
Comfort suites 760-921-2626

***Race Gas& Av gas***
Parker Oil in Blythe
391 S Main St, Blythe, CA 92225
(760) 922-7600

Desert Air Service/Blythe Airport

The Launch at McIntyre will be 5$ on Saturday. Its normally 10$. *** They don't Have Beer at the store there. Get it in town at albertsons or where ever***
They Have 91 octane gas

The sandbar is 3 miles north of Mcintyre on the right hand side, right before goose flats. If you don't know the river above that sand bar, i would suggest launching at mcintyre. The sandbars get a bit big and hard to navigate if you dont know them.

There will be off duty cops and firemen to keep things in check if they get out of hand
The cops are fine with loud headers and performance boats, If you do something stupid or out of line they will be on you.
