right now its sitting on the triple mount.  before i go changing it up for a real mount i just want to get it in the water and running first.  but i also dont really trust some bolts and washers on bare stringers.  so ill plate em for now.  best part is i got em for free.

i def need some odds and ends and will be hitting you up shortly.  but first comes a few grand for west coast marine interior...

did some "backwards progress" work this weekend.

pulled the motor out and assessed the stringers:

no water dmg, after running a test drill thru it i got nice dry wood, then filled the hole with resin.

then started my "plating process".  cut em to length, drilled all the holes.  then started bolting em up with good ol grade8's:

dropped the motor back in:

put in my gauges and finished up ALL the wiring.  gotta figure out whats up with my fuel level senders/gauge.  not getting any reading.

few issues:

have a 1310 driveline, need a 1350.  flywheel is index'ed for a 1350 pto, which i purchased.  but the driveline doesnt match up at the PTO adapter.  is it possible to swap out just the front part?

need alternator mount for a 454 bbc, and a single groove crank pulley.

I NEED SEATS!  gotta hit up 76 bonneville on his recent purchase.  didnt get his voicemail until tonight. grr.

oh well.  so far everything is new and im extremely happy at the progress.

Panther jet equipt boats did not come with 1350 drive lines , in fact true "1350" drive lines are simply Beefy a$$ "big brother" versions of 1310's (slightly longer and larger girth) , a very few Panther setups look like a 1350 type DL but are actually "Rockwell" style ,Most  Panthers used a special 1310 DL with a very small female spline unique to that jet . No Real 1350 drive lines were ever made for that application to my knowledge ,nor could they 1350's be readily adapted Your boat should have a STG "Panther" D/L and 1310 PTO call if we can help Tom

Got a set of seats and going to use them as a template to make NEW seats... as u can see they come up about 10" too short, so I'll be extending that part back.  also need to make the bases for em. it'll all be brand new glassed plywood with stainless hardware, the bases will have some plates with threads in em built in so I can bolt them down rather than having to screw them into something and worrying about em ripping out, etc.  Hopefully I can manage to get some storage under em but from the quick mock up last night it doesnt look like it'll be much.  maybe a towel or two. heh.  once the frames are done i can take the original upholstery to a shop, and it should be easy for them to recreate it, just a little longer in the back.

got wood?  (theres a LOT more...)

seat bases made, just need to put in a couple cross pieces to mount the seats to.  ready for resin, then fiberglassing to the floor and carpeting.  as you can see theres NOT much room under the seats.  hopefully i can fit a couple necessities inside of em.

also cut out the seat bottom piece and back piece.  need to bend a curved deal and fasten that in.  then resin that all up, and its off for upholstery and DONE (minus a 1310 pto and alternator bracket.  thats ALLLLL i need now.)

Nice progress bro, looks great. Do yourself a huge favor and round off all the sharp edges before glassing it (you will thank me later) you can use matt (light stuff) to strengthen it up, resin by itself does little to nothing...

i turned into boxes with some more wood and added some bracing to it.  more concerned about waterproofing.  just dont want the seats to weigh a ton.  i do have some glass left over from doing the floor... also i was talking to 76 bonneville and he mentioned doing full glass on his and the upholstery shop was pissed because they couldnt shoot staples thru it... haha.

just picture a hole in the water and throwing burning money into it.

nah its really not that bad.  but little odds and ends definitely add up quickly.  $100 here, $100 there...

For the staple thing, simply just glass the front surfaces with matt and use finishing cloth on the back....

Resin all by it's lonesome is better at holding water in than keeping it out....Glass the corners and it will be stupid strong.

Just don't go nuts (Ron)  ;D

progress slowed down... got the seat frames all glassed in.  covered em in resin and then glassed and boxed all the corners.  then roughed up the floor and glassed em down onto the floor.  i think they're pretty stuck there since i can push/pull on em and wiggle the whole boat around.  all thats left is the seats themselves.  going to be pulling the upholstery off of em and using em as a template for new frames.  prolly gonna redo the carpet.  i shouldnt have laid it down before the frames, etc.  now its all cut up.  ugh i hate doing things twice.

other than the seats the boats all good to go.  electrical is done, plumbing is done.  driveline is done.  everything all new and ready to go out to a lake soon and freeze my butt off.  but ill have a huge smile the whole time (unless something goes horribly wrong and it sinks)

got a few things accomplished:

purchased new throttle cable, going to flip the carb 180* and run the cable backwards and around under the floor.  that way i dont have to deal with it.

purchased throttle cable to carb quick disconnect/ball thingy

purchased bbc lower alternator bracket

purchased oil and water senders for gauges.

acetoned the tanks and drained em, filled up with premium. im ready for boating!  found out they're 10gal tanks.  how long will 20gal last with a 454 keeping my foot out of it?

started on the seat frames.  im using the blue ones as templates so i took em apart to find out how they were made.  replicating them into new seats with new wood, gonna fiberglass em up and water treat em where the upholstery shop needs to staple.    gotta go grab the rest of the wood and keep on chuggin.  going to be going on a little test run this weekend in long beach harbor. im excited to go idle around and make sure everything is solid before going on a lake trip. woo hoo

little more done...

ran outa wood. gotta buy some for the strips to make the curved seat back, and then the bottoms of the seat cushions.  then ill slap em into the boat, trace the contour of the side, cut em to height, then use a rotozip/dremel to cut the round down areas of the arms, then fiberglass em up and off to upholstery shop.

took a few steps backwards this weekend...

pulled the motor out, went to put the dipstick tube in and it felt like it was hitting something... so decided to pull the pan.  glad i did.  found a bunch of goo in the bottom.  cleaned it all out, cleaned out the dipstick hole that had an old dipstick broken off in it...

decided im just gonna order a marine pan or find one someone has laying around.

dropped the motor in, and as some know from performanceboats im having some problem with the driveline slipping on the spline when its being dropped.

went ahead and flipped the carb around and hooked up my new 20' throttle cable and foot pedal.  im glad River Dad was so generous and gave me a pedal where the cable hooks up towards the front.  it allowed me to run the cable around the sides of the boat and then to the bow and back to the pedal.  that way i dont have a cable going thru the middle of the boat.  and its smooth...

started raining so i went back home and finished up wood seat frames.  started glassing up the curve with mat.  its stupid strong now.

then i found this folding chair.  i think its awesomely big.  not to mention has cupholders for 6 beers.

When using plywood on curves its best to bend with the grain. This will allow for most to do in one piece. From how your doing it, looks like your gonna need a grip of fiberglass.

Let me know how much room you have between the block rails and the bottom of the boat directly below the rails.....I may have the ultimate pan for you... :sly:

Boat looks killer, wont be long now...

As for the the DL thing. Make sure the spline yoke fits smoothly into the pump before attempting assembly and don't grease the living crap out of it either, it can hydraulic and stick like a sombitch  :banghead: . I normally index them so I know it will go at least that way. Leave the DL assembled and "slide it in"  >:D This is normally a two man process if you have not done a hundred of em. ;)

And for god sakes, watch your fingers....Beers are hard to open with crushed fingers (ask me how I know LOL)...

Keep up the great work 8)
