When using plywood on curves its best to bend with the grain. This will allow for most to do in one piece. From how your doing it, looks like your gonna need a grip of fiberglass.

how do you bend plywood with the grain when plywood is layers of grain going perpendicular?  This is how the existing seats are done that i purchased from 76 bonneville out of his sanger. they were strong but some areas werent waterproofed enough.  im just following what they did.  i already have a layer of mat on the back, and i can stand on the thing.  gonna do a layer in the front just for my OCD and then glass the corners and waterproof the rest so the upholstery shop doesnt kill me trying to shoot staples into it.

Looks like you are making good progress and good find in the pan.

I like that chair.

What store did you find it in?

homegoods in seal beach.  was lookin for a dresser for the bedroom and found the chair instead.  im 6'2 and it makes me look small.

A typical piece of plywood will have the grain going the longest and will curve the shortest. Once you get beyond 1/2 ply its way harder. Another trick is to soak the wood with water and lay it on something similar to the curve and strap it down. Let it dry out and then use it. His picture has the grain going from side to side. If he had it top to bottom, that would of been an easy curve with 3/8 ply.

also ordered water side AN fittings and hose.  decided to just do it all at once and get it overwith.  do it right, do it once.

oh and dont worry i got the swivel fittings, not the straight ones.

just need to lift up the motor and get the driveline finished, finish my seats and then im READY FOR BOATING! yaaay.

all done.  now to just drop em into the boat, trace the hull line and trim em to fit and cut the round parts for the inner bucket and the end by the motor and then glass the edges.  then off to upholstery.

hopefully should last forever.  also gotta make the "seat cushion" inner part but that'll be super quick.

DRIVELINE IS IN!!! HALLELUJAH!%!#%!#

took some adive from pb and unbolted the exhaust, it wasnt like OMG but it was a lot easier.  got it to slide on FINALLY and then bolted up the mounts... then jacked up the back and put the rubber piece in.  just need to get some bolts and tap some bigger threads into the clamp since the originals are all stripped out.  i think hercules torqued it down originally.

got my alternator mounted up, new crank pulley on, spaced out, and a new belt on it.  gonna finish up the alternator wiring and then prolly drop it into the water to get wet!  weeee tomorrow will be a fun day! then i get to tear it all apart when i get the AN fittings and hose in. heh.

it floats!  it runs!

needs a new pump though.  got a horrible rumble in it at idle and a little shimmy at like 2k rpms.  just putt putt'ed around in long beach harbor to test things out.  reverse is like a sprinkler show, i need to tighten up the clearance in the little diverter so it doesnt spray all over everywhere.

now to just take care of a few loose ends, upholstery being #1 and the pump and im ready for boating season.

the inside looked okay when i tore into it, i think the bearings are completely shot though.  when i pulled the dipstick it was completely dry.  i tossed some 90wt into it just to have something in there and it growled and rumbled.

i see a brand new panther pump selling for $800 on craigslist, and i know jbp does rebuilds, what is a typical overhaul process on a panther pump like?  can you even get parts for em anymore?  wondering what my options are at this point.

there were no dings in any of the fins, everything was nice and sharp.  the tolerance to the side looked pretty good and even all the way around as well.

does it look bad from the pic posted above?  i think if it was any tighter it would rub in some spots.  theres like 1 fin at the top that gets a little far away towards the end.

pumps in!  not sure whats up with my steering though.  it got REALLY stiff and its shorter than it used to be.  hrmmmm.  didnt have a new rubber gasket for the pump but ive read on another forum that a spark plug wire works just as good.  so i used that and tossed in a bunch of new silicone around everything. hopefully i can go for a ride sometime this week after the silicone dries and test it out.

big thanks to jim and ralph.

took it out tonight for a test run.  no leaks from teh pump, however i think when i lifted the motor up to get the pump out i think i tugged too hard on the exhaust tubes and they came loose.  when i started going i looked back and i was like ohhh snap.  heh.  the water in the bilge was nice and warm though.

the good news is that the pump works and sounds GREAT!  gonna head to the shop and pick up some T clamps instead of hose clamps and really tighten those things up.

went out today...

not good.   i think its a headgasket.  there was some gunk in the valve cover breathers.   but the boat felt GREAT from idle to 5500rpms.  i dunno how fast it turned into but it felt like i was hauling ass.

oh and on the way in to the marina i dropped my phone into the ocean.  GRRRRR. not a good day today.

yeah luckily my dad has a giant boat to tow me around in.  i pulled the plugs out and sprayed a ton of WD40 in there to clean the cylinders out and went ahead and used the leftovers on the valve cover area.
