WR450F
« on: January 15, 2011, 04:19:11 PM »
I just bought a new (old stock) 2008 Yamaha WR450F.

I'm still waiting for the dealer to deliver it to my house.

Now I need to find the time to get it broken in and go riding.  If anyone has anything planned soon let me know.  I prefer the desert over the sand, but after it's broken in I might try Glamis.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Keith start putting the miles on that bad boy cuz the D37 Rolling Circus and Grand Prix circuit will make a stop in your backyard the first weekend in March and the second round will be in 29 Palms.  They are both incredibly fun races, with all kinds of terrain and obstacles thrown in.  They have classes for both beginners and old guys so you don't have to think of it as a race as much as a ride, when it goes on for an hour.
And I think next weekend is opening weekend at Glen Helen.   Several retired champs are supposed to be showing up.   Shhhh don't tell anybody.

Nice purchase keith...with your smaller frame that 450 will have do much power...you have way more then you need but that is a good thing...congrats on your purchase...i love them thumpers...nothing better for power and ridability...the possibilities are endless for hopping them up but even in stock form they are plenty good...i never did much as far as going faster on my bikes...always took the time to set the bike up to where i was comfy and thats what made me faster....

So far I've done the "free" upgrades that are recommended by just about everybody that has one (open up the air box, cut down the throttle stop screw, remove the exhaust restrictor and disconnect the grey wire at the CDI unit).  I haven't decided if I'm going to disconnect the air injection system (smog) but I'm ordering a jet kit so I can jet it up (severe lean from the factory).

I'm taking most of the plastics over to a friend that used to do my vinyl on my race cars to have him do some numbers for me.

I'm going to get it broken in and then work on getting the set up adjusted for my fat ass.  ;)

Heard stories about that gray wire...like i said i never did anything to mine even stock exhaust with a promoto billet spark arrestor insert...had to do that for desert racing...and the bike did 80! Most of the time you dont go 80 on a desert ride...if i was doing a fire road race i would gear down and run about 95mph...i guess your advantage to those mods is if your in the sand! Invest in your suspension "money well spent " and i always recommend a steering stabilizer

I'm taking the kids out towards San Jacinto this afternoon if you wanna go Keith.   We probably won't be out there long, but you can ride from Mo Val all the way to Banning on these trails if you want to.   We will be out by the Scientology compound, if you are interested give me a call.
My buddy is picking up an old Bultaco trials bike today.  Just another excuse to go slower rather than fast.   >:D      Getting old is hell

I've got all the plastics over at a friends having new graphics made for it  :screwy:
I should be getting those back by Friday, so if all goes well I'll get it out this weekend for the break-in.

Well, it took a lot longer than we planned on but I finally got my plastics back for the  bike.

We learned that the WR450 is one of the most complicated bikes to get a graphics kit to fit properly.  :banghead:

My vinyl guy had over 26 hours in trying to build a template that he liked... bought a template from another supplier... and we are still planning on making changes to that before we are done.

We've got the kit installed and will be taking measurements for changes and adjusting the graphics for the next set we make.

I do want to give a big thanks to Rick at AVI Wraps for all his time and vision in this project...    http://aviwraps.com/

I ride like an old lady most of the time  ;)

I only push my luck when I strapped into something (preferrably something with a cage).   ;D

Only dropped it once... in the sand...going slow

Put just over 35 miles on it today.   I think it should be broken in by now  ;D
