SoCalJetBoats.com is Moving
« on: June 25, 2007, 12:43:54 PM »
I just purchased a VM (Virtual Machine) on a server up in Canada. The current host has gone to crap in the last few months. With this new VM, I will have full control over everything the server and wont be limited to what the hosting company offers. This will open the door for the site in reguards to the ability to run some new content management system (CMS) applications as well as complete difference in speed. Once the cutover is complete, there should be a noticable different in speed. If you have noticed that in the past few months, the site has been getting slower and slower. It is most noticable in the store.

I ask everyone to be patient durring this process. I do not anticipate any large amounts of downtime durring the cutover and will do it at night when there is the least amount of traffic.

I am currently doing a dry run of the cutover to see how it will go with this site. Then I will do a live transfer of the test site. I have this site mirrored for testing so I can break the test site before I break the production site (this site). After that, I will run the cutover of this site.

I will update this site to let everyone know how the transfers go and what to expect as things progress.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

servers love the dry cold air....just like a turbo. They run better  ;D

Plus as of right now, I have no idea where the site is hosted (geographicly) ....could be in india for all i know.

Plus theres no natural disasters in canada....only thing I need to worry about is the bevers chewing on the wires.....or it being used to make the walls of a fishing house for ice fishing.

Theres only a few good things that have ever come out of canada.....bever hats, hockey, ice fishing, and funny beer comercials with bears.

I just did a dry run of the website onto the new server. Ran into a lot of initial problems, but I now know what to look for when I do it live. Just to transfer the files and databases and do some reconfiguration, it took just over 3 hours. I think I can get this down to 2.

The new server is MUCH faster....this was one of my major motivations to move to a new host and this has been accomplished. I am very satisfied. I cant wait to get this site live on it.

Next is to test my full test site transfer with domain transfer. That wont happen for a couple more days.

Back to work...

Hey Brad I tried crossing my fingers but it made holding my beer very difficult . . . so I had to stop. I guess you are going to have to change over the site without my help. Holla if you need nything. Hell I might even get to bed early tonight. Thanks again, you have changed my life in so many ways.

what a night.....

everything went pretty smooth, but theres a few things that I need to still fix.....one is the member map...for some reason all of the locations didnt transfer.

Also, the gallery is busted...you can view albums fine, but dont bother trying to upload images.....

Smilie buttons arent working either.....damn, make that all the buttons :(

If you guys see anything out of the norm or something isnt working, dont assume I know about it. Let me know so I can fix it
