Jet Boat insurance
« on: June 10, 2010, 07:44:55 AM »
I have a 1977 Caibbean jet boat with a 455 Olds / having a hard time getting liability insurance due to engine not covered. Do not really want to cover engine. Have a great record / any suggestions ???

Good luck with that if you ever need to file any kind of claim.

Welcome Paul,
Went to AAA a couple of weeks ago.
The only thing they asked about was the HP and top speed.
That was for a 18' Rogers, with an open motor.

I've got AAA homeowners and auto and when the dude was out checking out the house to write my policy...I told him I had a little 18ft boat to insure....he laughed at me when I showed it to him.  He said "maybe, if you take that engine out and buy another paddle"...

I called AAA and they told me under 500 hp and only 5000 for value on a 73.

I insured mine and they have never asked for a a picture of the boat and they never asked if the motor was covered. I am sure if something happens and I make a claim that it might get dropped afterwards but hey then ill go find insurance elsewhere!

Progressive here.  Stock as manufactured Olds TT & engine cover (they asked about all that).  As soon as I told them top speed was under 50 mph they said Noooo problemo.  $520/yr.  I think.

No, they'll deny the claim and you're fukked. Trust me on this, there's many people that have been misled by Flo and her corporate asshats.

On what grounds would they deny my claim? I answered each question that they had for me and answered it 100% truthfully.

As long as you haven't modified the motor from stock specs, you'll be fine.

Go with Allstate or State farm...going with an agent who sells ins and finds a company means your paying him to look around. Make sure you take alot of photos and insure for what it would take to replace it.

Skip has me worried a lil! I may have been smart, maybe not. When Cin and I bought the house, I needed an insurance binder so the broker got me in with his bud at State Farm. Ended up putting my car insurance as well as all the riders on my policies for all the guns, etc.

Getting into boats, they first said no way on Moo, so all I said was, fine, then, I'll take all my business to someone that will.

They took pictures, I had the agent SIGN pictures I keep in a file here, and they agreed to cover them. Everytime I bought another one, I printed a picture, stopped by, and had them sign it..........

500 years from now those pictures are gonna turn up in a dig and they're gonna hail Hortencia Reyes who musta been the greatest boat racer ever....... :screwy:
