Door Adjustment
« on: January 10, 2012, 11:32:24 PM »
So on sunday on the way back to vegas from the TPM, I stopped in ontario to get some gas. The wind was violent as all hell and as soon as I opened my door, it ripped the handle right out of my hand and hyper extended the door.

At first the door wouldnt even latch close, but after putting my shoulder into it 3 or 4 times, it finally closed. Now it rubs where the door meets the fender and also i gotta put my shoulder into it to open it from the inside.

Anyone have any experience realigning doors? its a '07 chevy silverado 1500

all n all, it was a good weekend because i got to see everyone....but damn, that weekend sure beat me up (oh yeah, i lost a wheel bearing on the trailer on the way out there too)  :banghead:

I've aligned some doors back when I was working in a body shop but it sounds like you might need to replace a hinge or two before you will even get close.

The hinges on your model should be welded on, and a bear to repair. The replacements are bolt on and require cutting off the old ones and is quite labor intensive. The door shell itself where the hinges weld onto usually bends and could require repair or replacement. If you have comprehensive coverage it is a covered loss. You should get a quote from a reputable body shop to see if it is worth turning in a claim.

I had a frame shop pull mine back into place on my 2002 that got totalled. I did all I could at home with a porta power and a come-a-long to get the doors to close but had to hire it done since it was severe.

I chained that come-a-long to my neighbors tree and stripped the bark in a 3" semi-circle.. it looked awesome, but that's what he gets!

My NBS Chevy in comparison with my 02, the door grab handle on the inside is a lot closer to the hinge than that in the 02, would make it much easier for wind to catch it.

Marc on the boards here backed into my f150 driver door and had to torch up the hinge. Once hot a couple slight movements and it was fine.
