Is river Ok for boating Late Febuary?
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:03:05 PM »
I am looking at being in Fort Mojave in late Febuary for a couple of weeks.

I am going to be buying a boat while I am down there, and want to make use of it while there is still 6 feet of ice on our waters here!

I was there Feb 2009, and remember the river levels being quite low.

Depending on what section of the river you want to run you will have different water levels.  Most places you can run without problems by 10am.

The water temps on the other hand will keep all but the fishermen and die hards off the water.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Cold water doesnt bother me (frost last night). Our waters are frozen over from Noveber to June! Not planning on doing any water skiing.

We are going to be just accross from the AVI, but I don't know the river at all.

BTW, I will be buying a boat there, so if anyone is planning on selling this winter, I am looking for a BBC powered Challanger or similar.

We've ridden our dirt bikes across the river at Avi in February. The math is simple.......

I think Nordie goes anywhere from Avi up to Mead nearly all year round. February is a little cold for me.

Launch at Jack Smith in Needles. Deep water all the way to the gorge. If you need to go north of the Needles Bridge you got to be careful. Join Old School Marine also for Colorado river levels too, could be helpful.

First weekend of March is best. You should always watch the local weater reports, I have had nice days turn to storms in just minutes.

Will be boating from March 7th to March 21st out of the Fort Mohave area. If anyone is boating anywhere up and down the River during that time and wants meet up for some ripping around, let me know.

It was a great trip! Picked the boat up in Parris March 5th, and spent the next 2 weeks ripping up the Colorado from Laughlin to Havasu. Water was great, only one day where water was very low, and water temp as warm as our lakes get mid-summer.

Checked out Havasu on Saturday March 12th, went from Havasu City all the way to Parker Dam (real choppy on way North, not real fun)

I didn't see any other jets the whole trip, except under London Bridge there were a couple pulled up.

It's gonna suck waiting until end of June to get the boat out again.

Thanks.

It is in incredible shape for a 76. Shows very little wear and no sun fading. It might be because of the porpoising problem, but I am working on fixing that.

I was definitely worth driving 3000 miles each way to pick it up, and the 2 weeks of boating down there when there is 6 feet of ice here was a nice bonus.

nice float. looks like it spent a ton of time on the trailer(no disrespect), could be the cause of the porposing. either looks cool and enjoy it.

Mine was stiff when working it back and forth on the trailer.
Once I got it on the water and under power, it was amazing!

Yep, Nerf footballs. I remember the drag racers used to use them back in the 70's in their dragster headers. They are a lot cheaper than covers and will never fall out.
