Tires Needed
« on: May 26, 2011, 02:08:00 PM »
I need a set of 5 tires for the race boat.

They are low profile 205/60/14 - they DONT need to be trailer rated tires.

I blew out a tire on the way home from the Parker race. The tread flew off just out of Videl Junction....then it finally shredded to shit just north of Searchlight. I had no spare so I took the wheel off and ratchet strapped the axle up and drove the rest of the way on 3 wheels. Not the safest thing, but it got me home on time to get to work that night.

I also need to find a 14" spare wheel...not sure of the bolt pattern. a standard spare tire will not fit as my fenders are set up for lower profile tires.

The race budget has taken a serious beating so far this year so any deals you guys know of are greatly appreciated.

Brad,
The rim you're after, the bolt pattern is "5 on 4 1/2" Early Ford, Mid 90's toyota pickup works great, they're like $20 @ pick a part.
EDIT: If you step up to a 205/70/14 they're cheaper and easier to find. Pep Boys on Rancho has a Futura tire, buy 3 @ $66 and get #4 free.
Going up to a 70 from a 60 is not a big deal, they'll fit just fine under your fenders.

what is the exact outter diameter difference when going from a 60 to a 70? might not be much, but my tires were pretty tucked under the fenders as is. It would be a costly mistake if they came out too big.

also, about the bolt pattern.....pulled the fender off my trailer and i took the spare off chromeys trailer so i could roll it in and out of the garage.....and his bolt pattern wouldnt fit my hubs.  thats why i was concerned about what bolt pattern i really have.

A 205-60-14 has a overall diameter of 23.7 inches and a 205-70-14 has a diameter of 25.3 inches. Hope this helps.

the easiest way to tell is the rims that are on your trailer are old mopar! i believe that is the same pattern as old ford which is 4 1/2...99% of trailers are 4 1/2! come by tomorrow morning i may have something here for you dammit!!! skip is right though for some reason 60's are more than 70's, never been able to figure that out as it is less rubber!

Its because no one is going low pro on a 14 inch rim.
btw, I have 8 of them I've been getting quotes on and eveyone has been hitting me with $130 a pop.
one shop suggested i swap over to a 17" rim and the tires would be around $70-$80.
Not gonna happen anytime soon though.
