I've seen some boats that have the rudder offset to either side . is there a benefit to having it on either side . Why would it be offset .-beerjet-

Prop torque counteract and to get rudder out of "wash".
The rudder is offset to allow the propshaft to slide out without removing the rudder. A lot of older 60's boats still had the rudder centered.
