« on: June 25, 2010, 10:14:13 AM »
how does one determine how much of the pick up is hanging below the cav plate?
And angle, how much angle is put on the tube?

Mine is just a prefab stainless deal w/a #10 bung on one side and about an inch and a half tube w/ a 45* on it. Have seen a few syles, like the ones w/ the slots in the side of the tube. DONT try to put a hose over these to introduce water.....like we did on Rallisons boat.

The set up on your boat is what I'm lookin into Terry.
I've seen some that are 45* right up to the cav plate and some that are hanging a 1/4 down on the short side of the 45*.
So its -10 all the way up to the pump I assume.
How do the pumps do if/when sand is kicked up?
I know those impellors aren't the toughest.

I like the 45* deals. You DO kow they dont even run pumps on race boats (some)? I also have one of those 45* deal in the bottom for my trans cooler/ v-drive cooler water and I'll tell ya a couple years ago at parker before I had the dump plummed into the stuffing box I had the ole lady hold the hose over the side and that sumbitch picked UP some water now! I replace an impeller a year...or so. That little pump has just the right pressure to operate a Bassett T too.

-10 from the pick up to the water pump where it tee s to two -8s. the dumps will also be -8s. Also, its a good idea to carry a spare impeller. Replace the impeller annually. ;)

The spare is on my list and I've heard that several times over the years.
