do they make a roller cam for a 455?
Yes they do. It's a whole kit. Cam, lifters, pushrods and rockers. Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
heres my suggestion... take it with a grain of salt....Sit down, decide what your end goals are for the boat, Crusier? Speed? Power? Once you decide that, then pick a power plant that does not need a massive amount of modifications to live in that role. You can probably sell your Olds stuff and absorb a lot of the cost for a swap to something else. Then choose somethign thats not going to cost you 5k to build and probably die again...
I just want to get in the water. I'm sure this boat will be fast enough in stock form. I want to rebuild the olds but fix any issues known for these engines. Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
I agree with Steve 86ta, 1- buy a big block Chevrolet 2-beat the hell out of it season after season.
First off I will never buy a Chevy. My fist wife's name was Shevie, and yes, you can beat on it season after season but the reliability just didn't stand up. Next thing you know everyone is beating up a Shevie. I would rather build what I have and fuck a Chevy. Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
Haha guess I struck a nerve, just my opinion trying to save you some heartache building that olds. But do what you want. If you couldn't maintain shevie, good luck maintaining a jet boat. Don't let a woman blind you from a logical decision but it's ur $. Good luck on shore with ur olds as I skate past you in my chevy
Your killing me over here on the "ditching " the olds. It don't cost that much to build them ... Bearing clearances make longevity jm2cSent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
Wow your pretty harsh on the Olds man lol ... Maybe we can line up one time. my olds may have more than your Chevy can handle .... Got 8 years beating the shit out of that 455 ... 😝Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
I'd love to line up some time. Not trying to be harsh on the guy but I thought this thread was about a rebuild or repower for his boat not his first wife. Don't have anything against olds motors if they're done right I'm sure they are reliable . No disrespect meant if it was taken that way
Hmm didn't you stab it in there last night there b-rad?
Roarrrrr
Lol! Holy shit! Just about spit my coffee out. A woman named Shevie? There is so many jokes that could be made about unreliable, smell funny, dont run right. But you know what? I am not going to do it today. Lol
Im a smart ass. I was just trying to get a chuckle out of you guys. Wasn't hating on any engine. Y'all just don't know me. I looked at a lot of boats and most of them had the olds power plants. To be honest though, im a ford guy. This is just a starter boat for me. I want to get out on the water and have some fun. If you have any good info on what I should do to this olds please chime in. (Besides use it as an anchor) good machine shop? Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
Curious as to what made you pick this boat if your a ford guy. First post said you had 3k to 6k for a budget and you buy a broken Oldsmobile. Which while surely push your budget and beyond. We are coming to end of the season. With 6k in hand and some patients you could get a really nice running ford powered jet boat.
I can respect that. At least you didn't buy it at full price and later find out its broken. If want to keep the olds just find a reputable builder of olds engine. Most importantly for a jet boat appreciate. There are many running in boats to this day. You know guys will be guys talking shit. Good luck i will watching your progress. We all love pics.
