Steel chrome headers and jet boats don't get a long. Yeah I know people have been using them for years, bla bla bla, fact is you can take a brand new set of bassett shorties and get one tiny tiny piece of "seaweed" in there and they're FlOCKED  :o . Cover your boat for a year, let that condensation build up over night, heat up during the day, condensation at night, and 5 months later you take the cover off and  :o   ::)  . They got to be stainless, jet hot coated, etc... or the results are the same... unless maybe it stays in the garage, the water your boat goes in is so bad that even "seaweed" won't live in it...  :-\  Open a set brand new from the factory and it says right there in the literature that rust is normal  ??? and to just spray them with oil  ::) .

I have a friend that bought a boat for parts . It sat outside in a field in elsinore uncovered for years and the headers had allmost no rust on them . If you take care of them and stay on it . They should last . People just dont take the proper steps after they pull it out of the water and that is the begining of everything going to shit .

my bassett twistys are almost 12yrs old and you would never guess it by looking at them, very minimal maint. and they stay nice, wipe them down when coming out of the water and polish them before going for the weekend

Right off the Bassett website:

----------------------------------------------

Q: My Headers  Are Rusted In Between The Pipes And On The Back Side

A: The headers are steel and they will rust if you do not put oil on the headers while in storage. Some of the conditions that contribute to rust and corrosion are humidity, condensation, seats will wet, water in bilge, water left in water injection lines, and water left in top of t-valve. In addition, if the battery is leaking, the acid vapors will rust the headers. Thus, it is very important that you put a good oil such as WD-40 or LP-1 all over the headers, in the collector, and in the weep holes. Remember to wipe all of the oil off with windex and paper towels before starting the motor or you will yellow the headers.

I love my jet hot coating. Ask Flytime and Wanabe it even almost looks as good as chrome. Especially from a distance. Mine were hookers too...

The entire boat looked nice from what I could see; I can't believe you don't have it any more.
