as a qualified driver, you must stay in your lane through turn 1 after the green flag, then you can change lanes as long as there is a 6 boat distance between you and the boat you are advancing on.

As I understand it, rookies must wear an "X" on the back of their helmets the first year. To become a qualified driver, 4 fellow racers and a referee must vouch for you.
Is that close?

Also, until qualified you can only advance as far in the field as the ref determines, say no higher that 5 in an 8 boat field. Close?

bill you will have to see the referee after each heat, just to check in and make sure that you are doing ok.
that being said your biggest critics will be your fellow racers and as long as you dont drive like an ass you will be ok. i know its all confusing at first but trust me you will be ok.
