Default Marine Stadium Dissenter
This editorial showed up yesterday in our local Long Beach paper. Pretty much defines the mentality our sport is dealing with. Not sure his narrow mind would have allowed him to look up and notice just how many people were enjoying the sight.

Noisy boat races assailed
Last Saturday I started out with my dog for our usual Saturday morning walk along the Marine Stadium and discovered that the gate was locked. Dozens of trucks and trailers were driving past inside the gate. Crowds of people were walking by smoking, drinking beer and shouting. Soon after, loud speakers were blaring, announcing the speedboat races that were about to begin. The noise from the boats created a tremendous and intrusive racket lasting two full days until they finally ended on Sunday evening.
As a resident of Belmont Shore I strongly resent this annual disturbance of the peace of our neighborhood. We are unable to relax in our homes after a busy work week or enjoy the use of our beach on one of the hottest weekends of the summer. On race weekend a few years ago a bicycle was stolen from my yard.
Although I recognize that this event earns money for Long Beach, the city must also consider the property taxes that are paid by homeowners in the neighborhood.
In addition, consider the effect that the burning of tremendous quantities of fossil fuels has on our local air quality, global warming and the rising sea level. Our home is close to the beach in what has been identified as a flood-prone area. We pay dearly each month for flood insurance which we hope never to have to use in our lifetimes.
Neighbors with whom I spoke are as incensed as I am about this yearly intrusion of our Belmont Shore lifestyle and wish that speedboat racing in Marine Stadium were permanently banned.

Ralph-
Find out what paper that was in and we'll write letters in favor of the races.

I hate these kind of people. If you want to live in peace and quiet where no one will desturb your precious peace and quiet then move somewhere nobody else is!
What a joke!
-
I sure this guy thinks Long Beach should just fill in Marine Stadium and build condos :banghead:
Ignorant Fuks like this should have to live next to Disneyland for a month, then they might realize that a couple races a year are not too much to deal with.
-
It's just like the fuggin morons that buy a cheap home next to a god damn airport and bitch about the noise.... The name on the sign reads "LONG BEACH MARINE STADIUM" not "PEACEFUL QUIET TRAIL TO WALK YOUR BARKING, SHITTING RAT".......... :banghead:
We dealt with every possible stupid ass you could imagine when trying to get river racing re-established.
The part they don't ever want to hear is that while the river races were prohibited, the river actually was more polluted and cluttered with debris than it was during race years. The reason is, these irresponsible morns can't even figure out the words "leave it cleaner than you found it", seems pretty cut and dried to me.
Welcome to the world of uneducated, whiney Jackholes.........

Same mentality that helped shut down Mesa Marin Raceway in Bako. Drove by Lake Ming Sunday and noticed that the area above the lake is getting prepped for some new Lake view housing. Depending on who moves in, that could be a problem for future racing.
I ride Desert as well and am getting real tired of hearing these Tree huggers out there too. >:( >:(

COMPLETE BULLSHIT!!!
-
What a candy a$$, I hate complainers like this guy. I find it real hard to believe that local home owners did not know about the event in advance, this pussy just needed a reason to write a complaint. I hope this weak letter doesn't cause the event to get shut down next year.
-
wasnt marine stadium built so that LB could host boat races??? this guy is a moron!! its like moving to the dessert and not expecting it to be hot!
-
Hmmm, I wonder if this asswipe realizes how much more it'll cost him in taxes and lifestyle if he gets his way and loses the revenue those races bring into LB a couple times a year?
Some people! I swear we should not only reinstate waterboarding, but summary executions of idiots!

I'd be curious how long the good Doctor has been a resident vs how long its been a Marine Stadium This is the same mentality as folks in our are who bought property and built near the Gun range and then bitch about the gun shots Tom

(short version)
This is why I hate 99% of society.
What a big p#ssy.

I agree he is a pussy and a whiner and probably a metrosexual too. But that doesn't mean he is a tree hugger, although they do kind of travel together in packs.
Tree huggers aren't always pussies but pussies are always pussies and that guy is one. And pussies always have too much time on their hands so they use it to create problems for themselves and anyone who will let them intrude on their life.
But Lucky Stiff is right the best way to neutralize this pussy is to write a nice thank you letter to the paper giving praise to a great, all-American event that brought joy and excitement to a large crowd. Then he can go back to working with Hillary and find something else to whine about.
Here is the link to the Press Telegram website "contact us" page - there is a link for writing them a letter.

The email address for their "Letter to the Editor" department is: speakout@presstelegram.com
As long as you keep your letter clean and logical they will probably publish it - small papers love sheet like this because it gives them something to do.

Here is a fun fact for you guys.
Everyone within a X mile radius of the Marine Stadium has signed stipulations in agreeance that they are knowingly purchasing a home within distance of a motorsport racing venue.
its no different if you moved near an airport or by railroad crossings.
That venue was built in the 30's for the olympic rowboat events and has since held MANY historic motorsport events, probably dating back before this guy was even born.
its amazing that an event that takes place 2 days out of the year has pissed of this guy so much he took the time and effort to write his local paper. ::)

I used to go to those races fourty years ago. My family had a boat, or two, moored? in LB Harbor and I used to go to the races in the dingy. So it's been going on over fourty years, I'm sure there has been at least one Dr Dick every year. Dont sweat it boys the races aint going anywhere. Then again they closed down Orange County Drag Strip, which I also hung out at sometimes twice a week.

I would guess he's been there less than a year by his surprise that such an event could take place there. Anyone that had been there longer would certainly have figured out the one race per year deal. No sympathy at all for those like him.

Heres some "praise" from a comment section after the good Doctor's comments :
Boat races praised
Re "Noisy boat races assailed" (Letters, Aug. 12):
We are residents of Alamitos Heights, well within earshot of the boat races last Saturday and Sunday at Marine Stadium. Although my wife

and I were unable to attend, we were thrilled to hear this beautiful man-made Long Beach asset used for the one of the purposes it was built - boat races. How can anyone want to live in the Shore, knowing it is surrounded on three sides by water, and not enjoy water sports and whatever noise is associated with them? The use by power boat owners was drastically cut years ago, much to the dismay of many.
Two or three times a year for a "loud" boat race is not too much. Move inland next to a freeway if you need quiet! And, on the same subject our wonderful Press-Telegram gave the whole subject one picture on Sunday morning with a two-line story. Coverage? There was none that we could find.

My wife and I purchased our home 10 years ago knowing full well that the Power Boat Races were an annual event. Yes, the event is noisy (our house is approximately 25 yards from the announcer) but what else would someone expect from power boats? The races appear to be organized and well run with a great deal of emphasis placed on the safety of the spectators. From our deck we have observed that the spectators who attend the event are both locals and visitors to our city and all appear to enjoy the activities. We have enjoyed the races so much that for the last nine years, we have invited friends and neighbors over to celebrate the activities of the day.
Not all events that are offered in our city will be received favorably by all residents. Some like concerts, street parades, water activities, athletic events, etc. But individuals who do not appreciate these events should not try to interfere with the pleasure that is derived by others.

Marine Stadium is a world-class venue for boat racing, and Richard Willner is opposed to the noise? This is hilarious! The venue has been around since the 1940s, and has been host to several boat races over the years, as it was designed to be.

Signal Hill
Boat racing in the Marine Stadium has been going on since that stadium was built. People often smoke and drink beverages on race day and when a boat goes by, voices get raised.
The tremendous noise from these boats sounds like a symphony - a melodic harmony that makes me wish I were driving that noise maker. As a lifelong resident of Naples, I love hearing and seeing these boats roar by.

Jeezus, that reads like half the newspapers up here. These goofballs up here would save all the water (salt and fresh) for the kayak'rs if they could....
-
Christ, if it came to that here, we'd all be in a race to see who could successfully mount a Big Block in a Kayak first!
